I have Fenix 6 that syncs to Garmin Connect on my Samsung phone. Always worked fine with my previous Samsung, and also now the new one until the last phone software update. 

It seems like a bluetooth issue where the phone loses the encription with the watch. Every time the phone and watch goes out of range, it prompts the sync code on the watch. It drives me nuts!

Did some reading and called Garmin support line - seems like an issue with Samsung's latest update in their A series phones. Looks like the bluetooth firmware keeps forgetting the synced devices. 

Anyone know about a fix, update or workaround? Other option is to just wait for the next Samsung software update....

So it doesn't look like the device software version itself can be rolled back - like apps on a device can be rolled back

Looks like I'll have to wait this one out.

Maybe I'll make someone's day at the Samsung call centre working the week of Xmas...
