Whats the correct technique for getting down that steep rooty section of the Knysna race just before the finish.

I went in too fast and went over the handlebars (hardtail) after using too much front brake I suspect. Recovered, got on the bike, got one foot clipped in and was sliding down hill faster and faster before I could get the other foot clipped. Did a nose wheelie right at the bottom with one leg still unclipped, but recovered before nearly pranging into the obstacle on the right.

The best line is to the right of the trees as you enter the muddy section.Keep your weight back & your hands off the front brake.Easy!

I think it would help if there are no people stopping dead in front of you(happend with me), you are going very nicely then the guy in front of you decides to get of in the middle of the track. What works for me is to stay away from that front brakes.

That last little thing at the end?

Hit it hard, hit it fast, stay light, jump a little. If you go slow you're dead, that's why the front brake is throwing you, not enough speed.

The general rule is go as fast as possible and hope for the best. If it gets scary, close your eyes. Tongue

Seriously though, with enough speed you'll get over pretty much anything.

I haven't had the chance to attempt riding it as there are always people walking who don't get out the way or guys that have come down.

I had to slow down for a guy in front who was getting off his bike and it was while attempting to slow down that the front wheel got stopped by a raised root. I needed the front brake as the back alone was not slowing me down enough.

Could not do the rest slowly with brakes on, so I guess the best is just to hold tight, let go brakes and bomb it as mentioned in earlier posts.
