That may well be the case but then it would a product from the same distributor.
or Zini could claim to be from the same brand stable as Cannondale when they are unrelated outside of South Africa

Cool.

I was asking as it's something I thought you would you would know. If you aren't sure then that's cool too.

Google has confirmed that the importers of Merida started TITAN in the interim

Cool thanks for confirming, this is information I haven’t researched as to be honest, I never thought I’d be impressed by products of a brand that was initially available through sportsmans warehouse. They just seemed to be another volume brand started by a distributor to fill in the entry level market and maintain shipping container volumes.

Cytec are the importers and distributors of Merida for South Africa, with warehouses in Western Cape and Gauteng. The partners in the company own Titan as a separate brand and business altogether.

Thats where the tie in starts and ends.

Titan started out as a value product and sort of a Massmart/Makro type of market in the mid 2000s. They even had some sweetly priced carbon frames, that almost certainly came from the same mould as BH.

2018/2018 into 2020 the brand stepped it’s product range, focus and design across the board and a slight rebrand as Titan Racing.

Titan Racing uses a different manufacturing environment, it’s design centre (Forge) is in Belville. They own their molds/jigs on frames.

Their product/accessories range across the board with a mix of in-house and white label product. The XC/road helmets for example, basically a version of the previous gen Lazers.

Just to report back on this thread. Given stock shortages across all brands, I eventually got the Titan Racing Cypher Carbon Pro. It's a great bike, and while there was an issue with the rear shock, TR sorted it out for me with a very nice upgrade replacement, and I'm very pleased with the bike given the price and the spec of components. I did get Bike Addict to upgrade the brakes from SRAM TL to SRAM TLM.

Schmancy! Congratulations!

For my $$ though I'd chuck the terminator gears and use the proceeds for a dropper. Those luverly suspendy bits need, NAY, deserve the bum wagging goodness of a dropper.

Terminator gears 😄 - that's a good one. I have to say having used them now for a few weeks, it'd be hard to go back. They are just so accurate, and the ability to go from a hard gear to an easy gear simply by holding the button down has gotten me out of a few tight spots. I've also heard from a few mates that they do really well in muddy weather when mechanical gears start to clog.

There is of course the other side - a flat battery and you're screwed, or a broken derailleur etc. I guess for now I'm going to learn by trial and error. 😬

As to the dropper post, it actually comes with a dropper post but due to supply chain issues, they're not currently available. I will be getting one when they are again available. That said for some of the endurance events I've signed up for, I won't be needing a dropper post for those.
