Rockshox specifications state my fork allows max clearance for 60mm tyres which is 2.36in. Would it be safe to run 2.35 tyres. Wheels have an internal rim width of 23mm. It is a Rockshox SID select 2020

Clearance is a bit disappointing as my old Rockshox recon had max clearance for 761mm tyres.

it will be fine. there are not alot of 2.35 tires that go up to 60mm even on a 30mm internal rim. and defo not a maxxis.

my 2.6" tires whet up to 59mm on a 27mm INT rim

Yoh, I need me a fork that has 761mm tire clearance! I could run a truck tire lol

All jokes aside, like Morne said, I can't see any reason it won't fit, as 2.35 tyres are pretty common in xc. Best thing to do is test fit it if you can to check mud shedding etc.

On Rockshox's Trailhead's app they state clearance of 760mm for the Recon with that serial number. Clearance was huge for my Maxxis Ikon 2.35. On my RS SID there's not much clearance that is why I started this thread. I guess I will have to measure it to see if there is a min of 6mm as Rockshox states.

Don't understand why a premium fork will have less clearance than a budget fork. It just shows that you must check everything before you buy

maybe they menat 76mm? Because 760mm is 3 quarters of a meter haha

MTBRIDER you are right. 760mm is the max wheel size. Max tyre is 81mm

Cool, and good luck with your new fork. Maybe after you have tried fitting a 2.35 you could share pictures here for anybody facing the same problem.

happy riding!

I’ve got the same fork and due for new tyres - so would be keen to hear how you found the 2.35 upfront (and tyre choice?). Currently running 2.25 front and rear.

Not lekker sure which Maxxis you are running and if you follow the installation instructions but my 2.25 rekon race measures 59.5mm at 20 psi and my 2.6 rekon 65.5mm at 18 psi.

With maxxis you need to inflate to max pressure and leave for 24h. I usually go to +-50 psi (3.5bar).

I want to run a Maxxis Ardent race 2.35. Apparently they measure 58mm on a 24mm inner width rim. My current Maxxis Ikon 2.35 measure 59mm on my rim. I checked the clearance with no air in the fork when it bottoms out and there is big clearance. Just not as much clearance on the sides

the icons and the recon race was in my experience  their two "biggest tires" as in they balloon up quite nicely and have nice volume.

yes but what internal width? it makes a massive difference on maxxis. also...as mentioned above..ikon and rekon race ARE nice and big. Rekon 2.6 on 30mm rims are absolutely massive.

edit:

Thats was my 2.6 rekon on the front and a 2.35 rekon race on the rear on i30 rim. The 2.6 dwarfs the 2.35 on 30mm. Before I got those rims i had mtx33’s which are 27mm internal and they were somewhat smaller.

I built this bike for a cousin. Thats a Boost fox 34 with ardent 2.4 front and rear. Also has a mudguard in there. Fits fine. check fox's website and cross reference? Ardent 2.4 is SMALL compared to a rekon race 2.35. those Lyne wheels are i30.

Yeah, I found that the Ikon 2.35 is much wider than any of the Ardent, Ardent Race or Forekaster 2.35s. To the point where it looks silly if you have the 2.35 Ikon on the back and one of the others on the front.

Thanks guys, Looks good. From what I have seen is that Fox is far more generous than Rockshox with tyre clearance. I will then go with a Ardent Race 2.35 in front and a Rekon race 2.25 in the rear. Hope it is good enough for the Sani2C next year
