Welcome to the 10th edition of one of the best family fun and team building mountain bike events in South-Africa!

Participants camp on Van Gaalen Cheese Farm and for 24 hours ride either as individuals or in teams of 2, 4 or 6 - 8 riders. The individual or team that completes the greatest number of laps in their category will be the winner.  Historically there has always been a 6 Hour solo event as well, but this year we are upping the ante and replacing it with a 12 Hour solo race in celebration of the 10th anniversary of this popular event on the racing calendar!

Those who are more into running than cycling can again enter the 6 Hour Trail RUN – walkers are also welcome!

The 24 Hour @ Van Gaalen MTB race consists of a 12km lap. Riders compete around the clock to ride as many laps as possible within 24 hours (or alternatively within 12 hours). Whether you are an experienced rider or a novice, this event is designed to accommodate all with its social, flowing route!

6Hour Trail Run

Start: Sat 15h00 – Finish: Sat 21h00 (Day/Night)

 

Prize giving will start at 12:30pm on Sunday the 25th of September 2022.

Facilities:

Free Camping facilities for all riders/runners (First come first serve)

Water @ Transition Zone.

Bathrooms and hot showers available for all participants.

Charging Station for Lights and Phones etc. @ Transition Zone

Food & Drinks available for purchase.

 

Requirements:

Be self-sufficient (no electricity points in the Campsite)

Responsible for your own lighting for both your Bike and Campsite.

No open Fires please. Gas Braais are allowed.

I'm pretty stoked on doing this one, 99% likely solo. Never ridden Van Gaalens so don't know what to expect, but hey, that's part of the fun. Pretty sure I won't be anywhere near the top but this type of event is closest to playing into my strengths; Off road, diesel workhorse capacity being better than thoroughbred, the less sleep you need the better, cheap 😄

When it states "free camping facilities" I'm assuming that's just like a bit of open grass? No actual tents or bedding? I'll most likely just use my boot with the middle row of seats folded flat as my shelter anyway.

Correct. You get a mowed lawn to setup on. Nothing else. 

The 12km lap is really well thought out and has a good balance of single and dual track. One river crossing and uses part of the river trail if the route is the same. 

Absolute hoot of an event.
