Hi,

I'm looking at doing one of the out of (cape) town races and am currently thinking of either the 94.7 Cycle Challenge or the Amashovashova. Any recommendations on the better one of the two to do. Or indeed any other recommendations would be greatfully appreciated!

Bear in mind the atmosphere of the entire weekend and the fact that i've been to durban for a week previously before and only seen the parts of Jo-berg that you can see on the highway to Sun City ;)

Cheers.

Difficult one.

94.7 is lots of fun, but expensive. The Amashova is easier for us Capies. Wink

But transport is a bummer because it is not a "circle"  route.

I would do the 94.7... Only because I have more cycling friends and family in JHB.

If you're not starting in one of the front bunches, then forget obout the 94.7, because the traffic (lots of cyclists infront of you) gets a bit of a problem.  If you want to do 94.7 for the scenery, then you will be dissappointed, because there is not much to see.

Amashova on the other hand, is much smaller than the 94.7, so the traffic will not be such a big problem.  The scenery is also much better

If I have to choose I will always choose the Amashova.  There is buses that transports one to and from Durban

Backlash, not sure if I agree with your comments about the cyclist traffic on the 94.7. With the first 15km being on the highway I have never experienced any hold ups on the 94.7. I have ridden everywhere from licenced bunches to the slowest ones. The only place that got a bit congested last year was the new stretch before Northgate where we turned right and went up that steep hill. That section has now been taken out and we turn right at Malibongwe (Hans Strydom).

IanJ, got a number from somebody last year (EE group) and the traffic was hectic all the way.  The same applies for Argus.  I remember my first year in the AA bunch.  On Smitswinkel we couldn't pass and had to wait till after the turn at the top

I rode twice last year, first in Vets 45-49 then with friends in OD, as I said the only time we had any problems was up that short hill with the slower guys getting off to push.

I suppose it depends on the dynamics of the bunch you are in. I am sure that the highway and Jan Smuts avenue were pretty clear though wasn't it?

Okay, decided on 94.7 and have entered and got flights sorted. Can anyone recommend accomodation convenient to the start?

What's parking like?

Alternatively does someone want to swap accomodation at 94.7 for accomodation next year at argus?
