Totem bikes…

My 2 cents is the same as what everyone is saying above, look for a second hand bike rather than a makro/game bike. Preferably with 29 inch wheels, its a better wheel size (sorry @RobertWhitehead). I'm also 5'8 (172cm) but fully grown 😆 and ride a medium. However with a tight budget options might be limited, so possibly sizing up and swapping out to a shorter stem might be an option.

I spotted this...

Try using a filtered search approach with 29 wheel size and R6000 as max price (people are negotiable and even more so when an aspiring young cyclist is getting into the sport)

h

ttps://bikehub.co.za/classifieds/c/hardtail-mountain-bikes?maximum_price=6000&meta_wheel_size[is_multi_select]=true&meta_wheel_size[value]=29"

Whatever you end up going with enjoy your new bike and be lekker 🤙

Granted, some folks stop growing at 1.72m, the only question: At 15 the chances of him being fully grown is close to zero. Also, at 1.72m you only have 6cm left before a M is too small . Then I would rather have a decent 26er to sell than an entry level 29er (people will differ with me on that)

Stay away from makro bikes, they are all useless when riding trails(like you said you want to do). Buy a 2nd hand bike. There are lots on here. Set the filter to min and max price point and off you go.

I found a 2nd hand avalanche 2020 reflex 3.0 29er size m witch is perfect, for sale I’ve heard good thing about avalanche bikes are they good?

I looked at the specs it's still bad. I won't buy it. It's practically the same as totem. This is the bare basic of avalanche. Their makro version. Please don't buy it.

I like that. I own a 2016 sola 4 since 2016. Post link here? I do believe the hub will help you choose wisely if you ask here. @RobertWhitehead@RobertWhitehead and @ChrisF

Ask seller if it's a 2015 Silverback. But deore derailleur and xcr fork. If so it's a good deal. My wife has one. And it's very good. I habe the 2916 but it has raidon fork which is technically little bit better. The sola was a very good lightweight frame with lifetime warranty.
