Hi All,

I just bought a road bike and am not sure what routes to use. I would like routes with minimal road traffic. I have Strava and they suggest routes that look good. My question is Strava capable of giving me directions from my phone while riding i.e turn right in 100m etc ect…. Looks like this option is not available in SA?

also wouldn’t mind joining a beginners group. Live in southern suburbs CT.

You can download the route file and load it on your Garmin or other GPS. Not sure about your mobile.

Best bet is to get a garmin computer and look for routes and load them onto your garmin.. that will direct you.. but it has no idea about traffic.. to avoid traffic you need to get up earlier than everyone else and hit the streets.. 🤷🏼‍♂️.. 😉🤙🏻

komoot, strava and garmin connect can all create routes based on the most popular used routes.

I'm not aware if any of them are able to give your turn by turn navigation from their phone apps, but they do allow for GPX export to load the route onto your cycling computer/device (provided you own one that will do turn by turn navigation)

I recently planned some routes on Strava. First, I download the GPX file and then add it to my Garmin, which provides turn-by-turn navigation.

Downloading a GPX file from Strava is typically a paid feature. However, you can download a GPX file without a paid subscription using the following Chrome extension: Strava Export GPX Track.

Enjoy the the road bike :D
