i AM NOT SURE IF A 3D printed one will be strong enough, there was a company in Cape town that did the Silent conversion kits and they basically had a square hardened plate to remove that ring.

I can't find the details of the guy in Cape Town. According to the guy who did the original 3D printing, they would last for about 3 uses.

I thought it was worth a try and get one or 2 printed and see if it works.

There’s a company in Joburg that can 3D print 316 Stainless Steel, I’m pretty sure that will be strong enough. My brother had some gears printed for a machine.

That is going to be pricey, I ma sure you can have it spark eroded or wire cut for such a part you are going to use once.

Ja, if I remember correctly, he paid around R2500 for the gear, but when your production is standing still, and the part you need is on a ship, you need to pay.

What is incredible to me is how far the 3d printing technology has come.  To print the stainless, they lay down a very thin powder layer of the stainless material, then melt/fuse it with a laser, then they add a layer, and fuse it, and so, slowly build it up.

Agree though, for a single use tool, it would be too expensive to do this.

And you think spark eroding or wire cutting will be cheap?

I do have contacts, so I got it free the last time, definitely cheaper than 3D printing metal.
