I last rode from Stellenbosch over Botmaskop to Banhoek in April and found the link between Luiperd se Fijndraai and the beginning of Bartinney Skyfall freshly plowed over. Not sure what the situation is now.

Rode it this morning, there’s a new route signposted to get you to what is left of corkscrew, lots of jeep track, just follow the arrows. But that Botmaskop development has a lot to answer for. Wonder how they got approval…

Ok, so after playing around with a couple route planners and done some research my final route will probably be: Start at Old Bethlehem Plaas then ride through Kylemore to Hellshoogte, ride Hellshoogte until the turn off to the old road. I will then ride old road through the storm water tunnel in Botmanskop and climb to the Corkscrew, I will then ride the Corkscrew, Luiperd se Fijndraai, Bartiny Skyfall and Banhoek berms. I will then climb back up and do a bit of the Botmanskop sky traverse, then descend down and climb up to the top of Klipwerf via Nik Naks and do a run then I will climb up the Elevator and down Afterburn before finishing back at Old Bethlehem. About 32km and 900m of climbing. Is this a good route? Anything I am missing?

Thanks

Lekker route. We do it almost every weekend. I would start at the top of Unie Road in Stellenbosch though and avoid Old Helshoogte road part. Follow the signs to Corkscrew…. All the way up and over. First split on the other side keep right…. Left takes you to Skyfall which isn’t really nice except if you like pedalling down! Keeping right will take you a little further up…. Contour around. First descent to your left from the beacon is Fynbos. Great trail. Leads you to Banhoek berms and down to the farm road. If you turn right there parallel to the Dwarsrivier towards Oldenburg you can cycle all the way to the back of Banhoek, stop to fill up with water at the bridge…. Continue to Niknaks and then Klipwerf, Afterburn etc…. Coffee stop at Banhoek Chilli Oil…. Over Helshoogte. Turn left at the ugly new developments gate… through the pine forest and finish with Conrad Stoltz’s jumpline into Uniepark. I don’t think there are many rides in SA that can beat this one…. Enjoy😀….

make sure you have Zapper on your phone. You can pay at the sign at the top of Botmas. Honesty system

Court hearing in February next year. What happened there is an absolute travesty.

THanks for this, any chance you have it on file or strava link?
