A few emails back an forth, then I insisted on EFT to bank account [not PayPal] he all but dissapeared.

Have also picked him up on another 4x4 group trying to Buy caravans etc.

He is currently on my case and I am trying to figure out what the scam is. Wouldn't it be worse giving him my banking details if he is a scammer which he clearly comes across as. The language used is also very scammer specific. Also how does this PayPal scam work. Do they claim the goods didn't arrive so PayPal doesn't pay you?

Usually either fake POP and people release the goods not realising the money will never appear in the bank, or overpayment scam which is another fake POP, followed by contact from the buyer asking you to pay the balance to the courier/driver. But you don’t receive any money and you’ve lost your item and possibly extra cash.Β

They typically get super pushy about collecting the item once the first POP is sent. Often bring β€œgodly” things in to garner trust. These days they seem to use Uber a lot - I’m on the fence as to whether the drivers are actually involved or not.Β

Essentially they rely on there being a delay between Paypal and your bank account, but there’s never any money in the first place.Β

In the past someone said they play along then tell the Uber driver to pi$$ off, thus the scammer incurs a cost
