Hi guys.

Some advice from anyone who moved to the UAE.

The internet is a mess of info.

TL:DR have job offer, any insight on moving there would be helpful.

Hey @TNT1 I am in the UAE, Dubai. Qatar is not part of the UAE and is different country all together.

Hi, apologies. I'll be working from Dubai, flying in twice a week, my wife will be working in Doha, and we're based there.

Personally I've never been to Qatar so can't comment, but know lots of people who commute and or lived there. All have great things to say about it. DM me if you need info on Dubai.

My opinion:   I been in Doha for near on 17 years (OK not permanently relocated but rotate every few months) and have Qatar Residence permit (QID)...since the days it was really trying hard to stay afloat and relevant with the explosion of growth in Dubai...then came the World Cup and Doha has emerged from its ugly duckling status into a pretty pleasant place to be ...given my situation anyway..

A great Metro, major highways have improved traffic flows around Doha, growing cycling community, cycle paths also growing, beaches now in town instead of miles away! Great hotels with waterholes, a local supplier for pork and alcohol (if you have a QID), 6 star airport, central for getaways to Europe and Far East, Maldives is only 6 hrs away, literally worth it for a long weekend...Dubai is 50 mins if you really want to go to the circus...(OK Dubai does have fantastic beaches!!! and some awesome riding but the traffic is MENTAL!!!)...politically stable although the last few months have shown that no-one is immune to instability! But overall very safe....

Big expat community, with lots of Saffers...

Weather is what it is, no different to any other place in Middle East, prime for only a few months, then hotashell the rest, there's no getting around it but its catered for, there's even a  new island with outdoor A/C, I kid you not! Giwan Island residence has an open air pedestrian promenade that is fully A/C!

PS I commute to work every day when I am here, there are water stops and as long as you keep moving, and don't have far to go....55degs is not a problem!

There's a 33km "olympic" cycle track, actually it's a bicycle highway, with its own bridges and tunnels and lit up all night, where a lot of guys train, big peletons screaming up and down...can get quite hairy!

Availability of cycle gear is improving, spares can sometimes be difficult but international online ordering is good.

It is expensive...everything, especially going out for meals, drinks, that sort of thing, same for good accommodation, you are gonna bleed!

Hit me up if you need more info.....I'm there now...
