Hi my name is Quentin.

I am a french cyclist. Last year i ve finished crossing all Americas from Alaska to Patagonia.  I am now crossing Africa to Uganda and then Senegal to Spain.

I am starting my trip in CT. It will be a combination of camping where there is a restaurant  and staying in cheap accomodation.  My bike is quite heavy with my stuff. I can take good gravel road but i prefer paved road if there are not too much trafic.

My route will be Stellenbosch, Franschhoek, Garden Road until Knysna and then RN62. Before Port Elizabeth going North to reach Lesotho by South. Do you have any recomandations.  Crossing Lesotho and then Drakensberg (Newcastle) Nelspruit, Blyde River Canyon, Hazyview.

Do you have any advises for roads, lodging and security.

Thanks

Welcome to this forum.

Im sure there will be many people on here that can give you advice.

South Africa is beautiful and the trip will be epic, but important to plan routes and accomodation carefully so no security issues.

The Dragons back route on bikepacking.com might help you out. Also check your timing, Drakensberg in winter can get festive and Lesotho is even worse especially in the Eastern side...
