Think the price advertised was R6450....so that would be 9% on last years price plus VAT.

6400 would make it 8% plus VAT

You can't work it backwards remember that 100 +10% is 110 but 110 - 10% is not 100

last year entry fee was R5200 this year R6400...

to me that's 23%

but maybe my maths aint that great? Confused

It is actually a 24% increase as the entry fee is R6450.

quite right mandibles... so their newsletter should've said that the entries has increased by 10% (not 8) if one takes VAT into consideration.....

shall I point out the error of their ways to them? TongueSmile

I think we should at least get a discount for the last km of the event being on tar Wink

I'm prepared to pay more than R6450 if you convince them to take out the last 1km of tar. That hill is a killer! Dead

Eish Muxy.....this is something that I have on a number of occasions drilled into staff that are working tax backwards to 'gross up' allowances... now I've gone and made the same mistake

if you pay half my entry fee I'll tow you up the hill LOL... it was a b1tch, I remember thinking all the way up the hill..... Farmer Glen's a sadist, Farmer Glen's a sadist

This is so unfortunate...Still an awesome event but this excessive entry fee has probably put it out of reach of quite a few who would like to do the event again. Basically appealing to LSM 9 and 10 Cry

If they were bragging last year that they had so much money left over and that they could afford to give a car away, why not just do without giving a car away??? All we really want is to partake in the event, we dont really need to have a car give away...

Can't help but think an element of greed is creeping in here.

Thanks for the offer Nancy, but I'm planning on being fitter so hopefully it won't hurt as much. It is a 4.9% gradient for the last km of the race.

Come on 4eyes! It is an awesome race and well worth it!

I'm very disappointed by this move too, especially after the comments they gave about raising so much money. I think I'll give up my place and try the KZN Expedition instead. Only R2000 per team. See cyclingnews.co.za

Unfortunately it is a case of supply and demand. There is such demand that there will still be a huge waiting list. I don't know the financial workings of the Sani2C, but if the profits go to the surrounding communities, then I can't really complain. It is unfortunate though, that it becomes more of an elitist event.

Sure it is a 23% hike? Cause they stated they now need to charge VAT which is 14% and then also stated that they only increased costs by 8%.

So 14 +8 is 22 in my book which would mean that there is one little guy missing.

Anyways if VAT is payable that should not be taken into account as an increase.

There are 2 things certain in life "Death & Taxes"

They have to pay VAT on the increase as well so the 8% is actually 9.1% with VAT impact.  At R6400 per team the increase is 7.9% before VAT and 8.8% at R6450.  Worth noting that it is still an increase of only R625 per person, which in whole numbers doesn't seem as much.

good point linnega.. R625 is not that much money... in fact it's only just over 1 tank of petrol for me, mmmm.. perhaps I won't go to work for the next 2 weeks and the money I save on fuel can go towards my sani entryBig%20smile
