In the foreground is Runway 17/35 at Upington. In the background is 01/19 which had just been resurfaced. 01/19 is a "standard" length runway. See how much longer 17/35 is. Upington is one of few airports in SA to have hosted the Concorde. (1979) Will dig around and see if I can find the photo.

Look for all rubber temples. Rudy a good option. Also adidas etc. None of them are really crap, just depends on which brand you want to advertise

Having driven down to, amongst others things, ride the 100miler, I'd be pretty bleak if they cancelled the race.

Go via Upington. ie go north from CT to Upt and then via Kby to JHB. Roads a LOT quieter. We ride down from Upington to CT almost every year at Christmas. I know you said no MTB, but reconsider that. The gravel roads really make it much safer.
