Keo- First generation voluntary recall to upgrade

Look

Cycle has instituted a voluntary recall and upgrade in order to provide

consumers who own 1st generation Keo pedals (pedals produced from 2004 until

December 2005) with an opportunity to upgrade their pedals with axles that were

introduced for Keo pedals in 2006.  Consumers in South Africa have been invited

to bring their pedals to authorized Look Cycle dealers to have these axles

replaced free of charge, but we do not believe there are any special hazards

that require any sort of emergency action.

PLEASE NOTE:

The upgrade axles will arrive in

South Africa mid September. Please contact your local store, which in turn will contact me to arrange the replacement.

I had a pair of those.  The plastic cap that held the plastic spindle in place fell off when the spindle bent.  The whole thing came loose and I luckily saw it just as I got on the bike.  Took it back to CWC and they replaced it free of charge!

Glad to know there won't be any repeats on my new ones.  I was a bit worried.

Hi All. I have had a lot of queries....and there seems to be a bit off a misunderstanding....This is a voluntary axle upgrade. Look decided to upgrade customers with the first generation Keo axles, to the newest Keo axles for free. Ring your nearest store to let them know you want the axle...they will let me know, and I will be shipping the axles mid September on their arrival from France.

These pedals are not faulty, all pedals as they are, comply with all safety standards applicable to bicycle

pedals, including but not limited to EN

14781 (European standard adopted by CEN October 2005), AFNOR NR R 30-020 (France

national standard, adopted 1998), and the US Consumer Product Safety Commission

Requirements for Bicycles, 16 CFR Part 1512 (adopted December 1978).

Voluntary recalling and upgrading thousands of pedal axles..mmmm.

Look

has received isolated reports of axle breakage in older Keo pedals, but the rate

is extremely low.  In the US there are 80,000 1st generation Keo pedals in

circulation, and there have been 16 reported incidents resulting in 7 injuries,

only one of which is known to have required hospital treatment. The guys at Look strive for perfection, and a zero% fail rate.

Willehond, exact same thing happened to my Keos, also from CWC. I also got a new pair after I returned them.

In the W Cape the easiest for me will be WE Cycles. Please note that the replacement axles will only be here mid September....so give the guys a call and let them take your details.
