Whats the best lube for your shock

Recommended Posts

i have a Trek XTR hardtail which i bought 2nd hand and have noticed that i really have to push down heavily to get the shock to move. turning the lockout in both directions has no effect to the performance iow the shocks don't lock out. can you drip a lube onto the shocks by lifting up the booties?

what shock is it because if the trek you talking about is a trek 8900 with full shimano xtr it has a fox terralogic shock which you wont be able to push down from the top because it only really acts as a shock when it feels impact from the bottom

ok sorted , didn't know that. thanks

300 hours on a Reba......  no problems
mtbr.com

You forgot to add "yet".

The Reba has an oil-impregnated foam ring under the top seal. With use, these rings catch dust that rolls past the top seal. The combination of dust and oil makes a nice grinding paste that gradually polishes the stancions and removes the honing that's there to trap oil. Eventually you have a smooth stanchion that doesn't retain oil and thus destroys seals.

You can also drive your car 100 000 kms without changing the oil and like you say, no problems.......(yet).

It's just silly destroying a R5000 piece of equipment like that.

I would think it depends what kind of riding was done in what conditions in those 300 hours!

I have just had LBB's Reba team serviced by Johan Bornman and that is after 1.5years since new. It started leaking oil pretty heavily suddenly from the dust wiper on the right stanchion.

Okay the boy does ride it frikkin hard ........................ but I don't mind!
