Cranks are like vegetables ...... they sell by their mass. The smaller the less you pay.

ok so is a compact crank actually smaller or are the blades just smaller? cause i spoke someone just now and he said the only difference is that the blades are smaller! Huh? but then why not just buy smaller blades?

The catch is, that crank is not actually a Dura Ace crank. Its the FC-R700 and the picture depicted at Comobike is not the right one. Dura Ace don't have a 7800 compact crank.

Don't the use a smaller bolt pattern? Like 110 or something? Some of the pros use them on mountain stages but they put a 53 (Stronglite make a 53 that will fit a compact) on so 53/36 or similar. Probably see this sort of thing on the Angliru in the Tour of Spain this year.

The crank is available in the same lengths as other cranks. The compact moniker only refers to smaller chainrings and of course, smaller spiders to accommodate the smaller rings.

yes the compact crank uses a smaller bolt circle diameter and the biggest chainring that most manufacturers produce is a 52 but stronglite and sugino make bigger which makes for more flex in the chainring so i would actually just ride more and just put a 52 onto my normal 130 bcd crank
