Hey ppl. I was wondering if any of you guys use a shorter crank arm on one side to compensate for a shorter or longer leg??

This might be weird or not but I'm having problems with my knee/upper calf muscle. One the side of your leg next to your knee, down on the side there is a small bone one can feel.

Some ppl's show more than others and the pain I'm having is in this area and moving down into the calf.

Did a proper bike steup at Cycle Lab and everyting else feels greatWink.

Anybody got the same problem or feeling??

After the ride its sore but the next day its better again.Confused

Thanx

On the outside of the leg? If so then it's more likely to be an ITB issue. The ITB joins at that knobbly bit on the outside of the knee. Would suggest going to see a physio rather than playing around with crank length.

Crank length wont solve leg length issues and leg length is a ISSUE all on its own.

First get a professional assement to confirm that you have a LL descrency. The best way to do this is by a scan or full length x ray.

Check out http://www.cyclingnews.com/fitness/ Form and Fitness section and go through the archives they have lots of articals discussing LL and other interesting stuff regarding bike fit aches n pains.

Best suggestion is to put a spacer between the cleat and the shoe.

My right leg is about 2 inches shorter than my left.

Also had major back problems until I got the spacer in, works like a bomb no problems since.

Make sure also that the position of your cleat is set-up correctly becuase that can also add to your discomfort.

Aedon - 2 inches? Thats like 5cm. How did you get a 5cm spacer under your cleat.

Long Screws?

2 inches' date=' wow that will cause problems.

I broke both my femurs in a motorbike accident.

Had about 2kg's of metal in my legs at one stage.

Had to find very long titanium screws,  but it works.

Often people think they have a leg lenght discrepancy and often this is not the case.

If you have ever done a 3D Body Geometry fit you would know if this was the case and this would also tell you if the discrepancy is femoral or tibial.

My guess would be arch support, followed by a stronger and weaker quad muscle and depending on the severity of the pain....rest.
