Square-circles Posted September 18, 2008 Share I have a MTB - Kona We went to Majik forest (5min from us)So much funBUT i wanna do road cycling as well. So scared' date=' as a female... I must just do it [/quote'] I started on a MTB, only problem, no off road worth riding anywhere near. So I wrapped on some slicks and burnt up the tar. In the end MTB or road both have their own ups or downs. Just decide what would be more fun for you: Fast most of the time on the road, battling traffic, or slow most of the time battling single track. Edition 507 Posted September 18, 2008 Share Start with MTBiking as it is not really a serious sport of any sort Basically you can wear what you like, ride where you like and have fun while developing your bike handling skills. You can always upgrade to road later on if you start getting serious about the sport.
Zoo Cookie Posted September 18, 2008 Share Spindy, First of all, welcome the the hub, hope you will enjoy your stay here. It's been a year since I've joined the hub and lately my biggest problem is to fit in all the rides and to choose what to do on a Saturday morning - road or mtb, eish - some much cycling to do , so little time .... IMO: Join a club or training group - as mentioned before. If you can't join some peeps in the mornings/afternoons - spinning is great to get the legs going and keep 'em going. Don't over do it. Then over weekends try and do some longer rides. Doing some races - road or mtb - is also good. Start with the short distances - now worries. Doing longer distances will come in time. Also as said before : do not under-estimate the value of a good bike set up - road and mtb. And maybe check if the bike you already have is the correct size. And if not already - invest in a good lady specfic saddle(s) (you are a lady - if I read correctly ). Good cycling shorts a must. Join hub rides if organised - getting to know some of these crazy people would prove a lot of fun. And that is what you should have at the end of the day : FUN. The rest will come in due course. Good luck.
