Have you been to schwinn's web page recently ? It seems like they are focusing a bit more on recreational cycling and urban commuting. Maybe i visited the wrong page, but I would go for Mongoose

I have been to both MONGOOSE and SCHWINN's webpage and I do aggree that Schwinn seems to focus on recreational cycling.

I would, however mostly do recreational cycling as I am new to cycling, but I can get a 2nd hand Mongoose MTB in a good condition with all the bells and whistels (cateye, slick tyres for road use, clip-pedals,disc brakes, bar ends and a tool puch) for R2000.

I have seen the bike in person, and it is in a really good condition.

What to do...Cry...what to do...

yes that is a good price, go to a bike shop let them have a look at the chain, cassete and deraileurs just to make sure everything is in order.

You may run the risk of having to replace parts soon and can get quite pricey, but you should get a good idea by just looking at the bike and the owner. good luck

Jyzelle I like your spirit! But I'm a Natal boy so I'm afraid you wont see me there, unless you doing the Amashova, because that I'm doing!

you get mongoose and then you get MONGOOSE

THe canaan and the metoer (MIne and slowpokes rides) are very sweet.  THE price is also one of the best of the market.

I cannot talk for the Tyrax which you get at Sportsman's warehouse.

Best advice if the groupo is not Deore or better, it just not good enough.

Go and chat to a LBS that deals with Schwinn bikes. There are bikes that are not on the sucky web page that are rather good.

I still have a Schwinn MOAB SL. One of the best alrounder HT ali frames for my riding.
