Hey guys what is the lowest quality shock I should be looking at when it comes to Rockshox and Fox? I don't want to get a bike with a shock that I'll have to upgrade within 6 months. I was reading reviews on the Rockshox Dart2 and they weren't great. Is the Dart3 the minimum? And with Fox? I see that weight wise they vary quite a bit. Thanks guys! I hope this makes sense and isn't too ambiguousLOL.

I also thought it was about TooHot! Seriously though, my 2c worth is no lower than a Tora for RockShox, don't know enough about Fox.

Any other advice?

to be honest Tora is still very heavy and if you can afford it i would either look for a brand new Recon air or a fox in decent second hand condition because you will pay through your nostrils for a new fox

Thanks turtlek. I want to buy a bike with a good fork, but than the price skyrockets!!! But buying a 2009 Felt Q720 for example (what I'm looking at) and than spending still more on a descent fork is a bit silly isn't it? Could the dealer replace the standard fork with something else?

The shop will normally replace and give you a discount n the new stuff. But if you buy a good fork it will outlast you frame and it will travel (pardon the pun) with you from bike to bike.

the difference in price between bikes that features a low end RS and a low end Fox is around R8000-00!

Why not tell us what your budget is and we can advise on the best fork in that price range.

this tip will cost ZAR500-00 with a no return policy

yea the fork upgrade should not be a problem if you are dealing with a decent LBS that felt is an awesome bike for a good price and even though it comes with a fork that is not too great the LBS will be able to sell that fork off quickly to an aspiring MTB junkie

in short you wont be wasting your money at all on a decent fork but if you the guy that likes upgrading and changing frames just make sure to leave the steerer tube a bit longer on the top just in case you "upgrade" and find out the steerer on the frame is longer than your old bike

Ok this is the story: I'm looking at the 2009 Felt Q720, which has the Rockshox Dart 2. So my budget is R7000. I love the look of the bike and am very happy with the components on it. What do you suggest I do guys?

I'd say check out the Silverback Nebraska - the 2008 model was round about 7k and it had a pretty decent spec for the price.

End of the day it is what your gut tells you to do, whichever one feels best is the one to go for Big%20smile

I've checked out the 2009 Nabraska quickdraw and it is good value for money. But the Felt is one sweeeet looking bike with the same specs.

Correction the Nabraska has at least one big plus over the indeed sweet looking Felt, it has a RockShox Tora SL which ~R1K more shock for your buck than the Dart 2 on the Felt. Keeping in mind shocks make up a much bigger portion of the total price of your bike (frames in this segment are "cheap").

From what I can see from the Felts pic, it doesn't come with clipless peddles which the Nabraska does.

Some shops still have the 08 Nabraska in stock and the price on that is very competitive. The 09 might be more pricey by ~20%.

Hi Keith

Got to admit the Felt does look rather nice. I am not too sure on the pricing of the new Nebraska, but it does come out with a slightly higher spec than the Felt. SLX shifters and front der and XT rear. Also I think the wheels are a wee bit of a higher spec and the fork is better.

The Tora is not the greatest of forks but it is a hell of a lot stiffer that the dart.
