In the almost 2 years that I have had my MTB I have replaced the cassette once. I never HAD to as i rode 8spd and then upgraded to 9spd. The wheels that were so kindly donated to me had to have the cassette replaced. Chain I've replaced twice. Not had the pleasure of replacing chain rings as yet......

Housing and cables on the other hand..............OMG! I don't know how many times I've had to. I changed my brake pads on Sun and last night decided to see if the brakes work ok. Well.....they didn't. The cable is way too short and and I have it just hanging on now (remind myself to check if i tightened the screw holding it enough). The housing is broken by the lever yet again. I panicked a bit.....I am not going to be able to ride tonight and so on.....but then I watched some tv sat for a bit and made a plan. It is not ideal to cut brake housing with scissors and pliers I know but that was my plan. Got a piece of old housing cut it and changed it. Rode the bike this morning and it seems fine. Think it will hold for tonight but I won't be risking it for the BIG MTB weekend.

So in nearly 2 years and maybe not super hectic mileage but still enough, I've had to buy some stuff....

2 chains

2 sets of brake pads

1 cassette due to an upgrade and not wear

I BOUGHT a set of tyres and the ones I ride with now were donated as well LOL

4 or 5 sets of cables and housing..... the last one now lasting me since Knysna.....I think with the amount of riding I have done since then that is a bit of a short life....

I know Para told me to get the XTR cable sets but I am bit scared to if they gonna have the same lifespan as my no name R15/lenght cables/housing....
