Belgian beers are just like Belgian hills' date=' when compared to their Dutch counterparts: They have higher percentages, are slightly rougher, you can handle less of them in one go and boy, do you remember them the day after! Oh, and they are talked about and longed for all over the world.[/quote']

Belgian men/hills/beers you say LOL - finally you're talking sense!!

You just couldn't wait to get that in, could you!  The similarities between Belgian men and beer don't end there though:  they are both a bit old fashioned, short and stubby, mostly found in bottle stores, have very thick heads and need to be replaced often by another to prevent boredom. Beat that!Big%20smile

you clearly have met flemish then?

I expected a backlash from my original post - but wasn't prepared for a KO LOL

You must be talking about the 'OLD' Belgians - I'm one of the 'NEW' kind Wink - NEW and IMPROVED - still short though Big%20smile

Eish - how to get out of this one Embarrassed

By changing the topic again. Where did you end up doing your 4-5 hour MTB ride on Saturday?

We ended up on the Spruit - the bike we borrowed was a bit of a nightmare as the shock leaked fast (had to lock it out) and the gears slipped (cable rusty and stuck) - so Jo didn't enjoy her ride! It also was the first time she mtbiked with proper shoes and cleats - she's not that confident for the Crater Cruise, so I think we'll ride together and enjoy it! Hopefully we can sort out the bike soon!

So after 3 hrs playing around on the mtbikes we went for another 3hrs on the road...

Hectic hills: The one in the second stage of the Epic this year. 10km, took 90 minutes to climb that bad boy. Gradient on my Garmin showed 20-22% the whole way, rocky, loose, HARSH!

This is a pic of climbing that hill - me in front, Johan Labuschagne pushing his and his team mate's bikes (mixed team) and my brother and team mate at back. We are in granny gear and moving at about 4-6km/h! The descent on the other side was flippen hectic, all you could smell at bottom was cooked disk brake.

Good old Spruit hey... 6 hours of riding in one day. Good for you! Might as well do that before the kids arrive! Ride the Crater steady - don't start too hard cos you need every little bit of power for that b!tch of a finale!. She should do well if she's conditioned for long hours in the saddle.

Yeah, yeah. But just think about how alive that climb and descent made you feel! I envy you!

cycle along the coast road towards rooi-els. just before you get to the last houses in gordons bay theres a road off to your left. It has a big sign that says something about water purification or water treatment or steenbras dam. thats pompstasie. it immediately starts @ 8% gradient

My front brake went before that climb and I only had a rear going down the otherside, hence to say it overheated and I crashed big going down.

Done that too!! Man that was ridiculous. My partner bonked and I had to push his bike too! We stopped half way down the otherside to let the brakes cool, man it was awesome though!!!

Its huy and that one ain't cobbled. Geraardsbergen is te one that's cobbled, used to be in my back yard and still am member of a club that has its base on that piece of nightmare.
