Only differance is that a shorter cranck eccalerates faster (smaller pedalling diameter), longer cranks = more leverage (bigger diameter), so if you like being a diesel, keep to the longer crank. If you like sprinting and jumping, shorter.

By far the easiest length to resell (if you ever want to) is 172.5mm

I'm 1.78m tall and 172.5mm feels best to me.  I also ride 175mm on MTB and on one of my road bikes, but prefer 172.5mm.

My femur/inside leg measurement is shortish and I should ride 172.5 mm cranks according to the calc.

Didn't know any better when I started cycling in '83 and had 175 mm ones fitted.  Never changed since then and never had an issue.  Used 172.5 mm ones on the track many moons ago, because I couldn't find 175 mm ones.

I am 1,87m and have ridden all the years with 175mm cranks. When I had my DA 7800 gruppo fitted they slapped a 172,5mm crank on and I was non the wiser until I serviced my bike a few months later and made the shocking discovery.

I never really noticed any difference and don't feel at a disadvantage either.

As for shorter cranks accelarating faster, I don't think 2,5mm is going to make any difference in a sprint for the 1988th place...not unless you trying to break a world record.

As said earlier, 172,5mm cranks are easier to get rid of when wanting to sell them.

I am 1.77m and ride a 175. Got short legs for my length as well, but then again i tend to ride heavier gears... If you like to spin more i would say go for 172.5 but not really shorter.  Rode a 180 on my TT bike, but there again, i rode heavier gears, so then it helps.
