Bearing Database: Please contribute

I am compiling a database (probably more like a long list) of cartridge bearing numbers for various hubs. I thought this would make a useful addition to our forthcoming technical FAQ.

In other words, I'd like to compile a list that would reference the difference type of bearings in different hubs. The idea is that someone who can feel his bearings are on the way out can consult the list, look up the bearing number and quantity, buy them and quickly install it over the weekend.

Most of you seem to ride poofter (formerly known as boutique) wheels and many of you know what bearings they take.

Please contribute to this list by posting the hub type and bearing code. It will look something like 6092 RS2 - the first digits refer to the bearing's size and the alphanumeric code at the end refers to the type and number of seals. This is the least important.

I'll sort the list and add it to the FAQ.

EDIT: For rear hubs, please indicate which ones go into the hub and which into the freehub.

BigBen, nowadays with them being external, they're all the same except for the Italian vs British thread. It is easy to see the thread type on the BB without dismantling it. My thinking was that wheel hubs have to be dismantled in order to read the bearing number and therefore people tend not to do it but just take it to a bike shop.

By knowing then number, you can have zero downtime.

I was thinking just the bearing type inside the external BB's if that makes sense. I have 'serviced' 1 set and I guess the next time I will have to replace them! Was a bit doff at the time and didn't take note of the type when I had them out .......

Good point. I didn't think of it like that. Consider the request out there. Bearing numbers please guys.

Thanks Conti. May I please confirm that those front bearings are indeed 688 and not 6882?

Ksyrium SL's - Silver

Front : 2 x 6901 (12*24*6)

Back : 2 x 608 (8*22*7) & 1 x 6903 (17*30*7)

These are for the Ceramic Bearings (from Bearingman)

I don't know whether the bearing codes would be the same for normal bearings.

Zaskar, no I haven't seen those sites. Thanks for pointing them out. Am I right in saying there's no such database on there?

Mint, you are right. I think I should list the freewheel's bearings as a sub-section of the rear hub. I was just gonna say 2 X bearings and 2 Y bearings but it makes sense to differentiate.

Hey JB,

Bearing are my buzzniss! Please feel free to contact me forbearing info (not too good on bikeinfo yet). I can also supply at a good rate if Hubbers are prepared to give me a days warning and come and collect in Rivonia. I can also slowly build up a small stock of cycle specific bearings based on your Database.
