What is it with all these high goody-bag expectations? Your entry fee is to ride a race, not get a top-class lucky packet! With closed roads, that's one of the safest races in the world, which is far more valuable than a few bite-sized Bar-Ones and a back-issue magazine...

its not just about the ride.

its an event.

gungis in natal he can ride that route most days.

thats why theres expos, race packs, kids rides, finnish areas and whatever else.

Like Sean said.

However, if you have high goodie bag expectations, why not get your mum to drop something off special with the registration people to put with your no. so you get that Xmas morning feeling when you go to collect?

i'm sorry i am not hardcore like everyone else replying to this forum,(not you cosmo or cory). i have never done amashova before and with it being a big event and all i took a 40km drive down to durbs to collect my race pack! and was not overly excited about the fact that they could have just faxed me my race no... anyway dissapointment over now and i am really looking forward to the race!

Its more about "EXPECTATION" I think, Goody bags are an old institution at many "like" events and people have got to expect it as a token of appreciation, a sort of "thank you for entering and supporting" which is fine, however over the last few years goody bags have deteriorated to such an extent that in my opinion they are not worth the effort anymore

, however the EXPECTATION still remains.

My feeling is, if you are going to give one, make it worth while, otherwise dont bother, and make it known ahead of time NO GOODY BAG - no expectation, no disappointment.

Hey gungi - we got off on the wrong foot.

The Amashova is a great race & a lot of us are making a big effort to be there - planes, buses hotels etc. so me for one am in the mood to hear it being talked up a bit.

I spent a couple of yrs going to big races &, like you, feeling let down that there wasn't any heart to the hype.  Ur anonymous, pick up ur no., ride the route, finish go home.  No-one knows you and no-one cares about you - it's just how it is.

Getting to know people is the best way to enjoy an event regardless and even inspite of what the organisers do or don't do.

Don't think I've ever been described as "hardcore" before - I'll ask my teenagers what they think.

The really cool thing about goodie bags is when a good one does come along it is FRIKKEN AWESOME because it takes you by surprise! I got a pair of NB socks and a water bottle in the final Jeep Msinsi and I was through the moon!!!

Hey Joe, on the right foot again:)

you must be making the biggest effort in amashova history if you are coming from bahrain!

In defense of the Shova organisers, they put the profits from the event back into cycling, more specifically the U16 tour.

Given that, I'd forgo the goodie bag happily

haha, i just thought that their should'nt have been a buildup on goodie bags, i remember hearing somewhere that there was big sponsorship and the packs had almost 300 bucks worth of sponsored goodies and then there was nothing! so anyway i am over it, just thought i would see if anyone else felt the same... and if they put the profits back into cycling then big up to them smiley32.gif
