I'm confused, is it the Dark; Brown or Dirty side -

Or the dark-brown-dirty side... ???

Plan for the 1st ride this weekend, the mast and Noordhoek peak.

I wondered how long it would take. Nice bike.

won't be joining you this weekend but we gotta go soon.

Oh yeah, my 100kg is not racing your 60kg up to the mast, but on the way down  I think you gotta deal Wink

Little does the young padawan know that however short this route looks to eyes used to the road, it is not to be messed with.

Welcome!

Oh, and remember that you're going to crash at least 7 times in the first month of MTBing. Don't ask, it's just how it works :-)

I have a new respect for MTB'ers...

The hills are just a different class. No road rider can say he/she can climb until they go off-road! Arguably the most notorius 'road' climb in Cape Town, Ou Kaaps, looked like a mole hill from the Mast.

The climb to the mast was relentless, just carried on and on, getting steeper the higher you went... 905m of ascent, we took it fairly easy and made it to the top in about 1h20 (including stops)

I tried a bit of singletrack, and in about 50m I fell twice, think I need to work on that...

IT is the "brown" side for those that ride in the wet.

It is the dirty side for those that go off road.

It is the dark side for those who believe that you only see fairies on the road.  (faeries are for Mtbkers, they help when you are plunging through undergrowth with your bike airborn going in another direction.  However, there are those who believe that faeries actually cause such events, but it is actually the pixies and elves who are trying to loan your bike while you are riding it.  Goblins play with your settings when you are sleeping between stages, or drinking coffee at the shop)

For the brave there is the dark and dirty, which is riding at night over terrian that you would not attempt during the day.  (Lucky elves and pixies sleep at night and faeries don't

Welcome to the other side. Now you should go do the Red Route at Harkerville and become addicted to singletrack. You will never be able to ride a road bike and not think of that sweet route through the forest and the flowing ride next to the cliffs.
