NotSoBigBen Posted January 12, 2007 Share I use my bar ends on short sharp ups, long flat sections (not many of those in races ya!) and long non technical ups. Find it does rest the elbows and hands a bit (maybe just the changed position). Does anyone else feel more comfortable standing on ups using the bar ends? Maybe just cause your hands are right at the edge of the bar? Haven't yet not got to the brakes in time cause I was on the bar ends or got them hooked up on anything but maybe just lucky? AndreZA Posted January 12, 2007 Share You can't change gears or brake when you are riding with your hands on top of the bars on a road bike either. You do it for comfort. I've only been doing MTBing for a short while and I'm already quick to lock up my fork and grab the bar ends when it comes to a climb. what the hell, I even get out of the saddle still. Granny gear is still new to me.
TitusTi Posted January 12, 2007 Share Why lock the fork out? That's something I can't get my head around?
NotSoBigBen Posted January 12, 2007 Share I'm also quick to lock my fork out pity I don't always remember to unlock it in time. Have ridden some scary stuff with the fork locked out!
dirtrider Posted January 12, 2007 Share Why lock-out ur shock ? Doing the Crater Cruise Doing the K2C Getting outta the saddle on a smooth uphill Because you can .
TitusTi Posted January 12, 2007 Share If you learn to pedal properly and not jump up and down (like a monkey) while going uphill you don't need to.
AndreZA Posted January 12, 2007 Share Why lock the fork out? That's something I can't get my head around? Like I said, I still get out of the saddle and then you feel bobbing.
TitusTi Posted January 12, 2007 Share Read my previous post, it's not a road bike, you do have to ride it differently!
NotSoBigBen Posted January 12, 2007 Share TitusTI - my LBS owner (also happens to be flippin good rider!) keeps on crapping me out for exactly that reason! In fact said the next shock he sells me won't have a lockout, hey I'm paying!
TitusTi Posted January 12, 2007 Share I like him already! Lockouts are a crux for bad design and bad riding style!
AndreZA Posted January 12, 2007 Share Read my previous post' date=' it's not a road bike, you do have to ride it differently![/quote'] I've been on a road bike 14 years and on a MTB for one month. Don't you think I'm still gonna ride it like a road bike.
dirtrider Posted January 12, 2007 Share IKf I had a ridgid bike for races like the crater I would use them , second best is a lock-out
NotSoBigBen Posted January 12, 2007 Share I assume crux = crutch? Apparently on my new fancy Specialized Epic steed I must behave and ride properly else he'll come take it back! Says that I don't have any more excuses like 'but the Stumpjumper always bob's!' Apparently the only Bob should be the oke on the bike!
TitusTi Posted January 12, 2007 Share Learn! There's only one way to learn keep on doing it til you get it right!

Not as good as a Titus though!
NotSoBigBen Posted January 12, 2007 Share I tell you what I won't lockout once on our 4 hour ride tomorrow and give feedback on Monday! Ewep can control that the experiment is undertaken correctly! Oh but he spoke to Chunky today not sure if I'll be able to keep up!!!!!!
