Today's ride was a series of mishaps.... I was on the traffic side of the bunch, and during the time that I moved forward to slip back on the bush side of the bunch a snake bit Slaves tyre. Apparently Slave called out, but I never heard him. I went with the 'long' group, and got my backside kicked good & solid!

Average temperature was 11 deg this morning, was 8 when we started. smiley6.gifI promptly bought some more winter gear after the ride, so next time I'll look more like one of the skiing club members (Hi Trubie smiley2.gif)

Does anybody know why there was a TV/camera crew on the bakkie?

Despite losing the group due to snakebites and stuff, I went around the short loop chasing like mad to catch up to anyone.

Managed to catch the slow bunch at the top of the steps, but eish, the pain.

So I got my new shoes yesterday afternoon and chickened out of the ride this morning. Sorry Kid, said O would see you but I spent the time setting up the shoes.

Went for a neighbourhood bus ride to check em out. So far, no difference bit time will tell.

Enjoy the rest of the day and happy mothers day to all the moms out there (Nance et al.)

Hey Oxman, you tested those bib tights you got yesterday?

I can get all sorts of cycling clothing and winter gear for anyone else interested.

Hey Narco, Looked for you yesterday morning but I did not see that white steed of yours.

Rest period is now officially over. Have to get back into the riding again.

Sounds like all had "fun" then this weekend on the rides.

What is it with all the flats this week?

The group I rode with had 2 on Fri, 3 on Sat and apparently also 2 on monday.

Slave manages to get himself out of the steps race with Ox by going through a pothole...........

Fortunately (while saying it touching wood), I have been on the pumped up side of flats since 22 Febsmiley32.gif

Must be 'em Gators.

Ox , it must have been some ride you had, if you went long unknowingly!

Come to the south more, you'll get to know the routes and more important the groups you should and shouldnt ride with. Where did you go? You can mos send a map?

Slave - got my balaclava yet?

Welcome back, you sound well rested. Bet you OD'ed on the performance stuff hey!

You wait and see the diff the shoes make on the uphills, that neighourhood is too flat to get the real effect, and once you are expected to work harder than usual you will notice a diff while pushing and pulling.

So kid did another long solo ride today?

Thanks Slave smiley4.gif  Not only did my riding buddy treat me to coffee on our ride this morning (even though I'm not his mom smiley36.gif)' date=' but when I got home my boys had prepared a spread of note (I still feel a little ill from over-indulgence), along with some hand made cards and flowers and lots of assurance that I'm the best mom in the whole world [img']https://assets.bikehub.co.za/legacy_images/smilies/smiley4.gif[/img]smiley4.gifsmiley4.gif

Not yet slave. I did a the 5km World Wear fun run this morning (The Forerunner told me it was 5.86983 km smiley5.gif) and thought that I'll look a bit weird doing it in a long cycling bib smiley36.gif, so I decided on more traditional running garb...

Got to the Lido Hotel and the bunch went right, and I thought "oooh carp". Would love to ride more, but trust me I'm doing what I can without sacrificing things even more important than cycling!

Decided to leave the Garmin at home as I know the short route....

Hey there Trubes. Yep, I have that mask / balaclava for you as well as the kit that Spaso9 wanted. But he didn't come through with the performance stuff. I'll have to make do with the traditional stuff.

I don't hang about when my buds want stuff. I get the job done. (Anything off the bike is easy.)

Glad to hear you got spolied for moms day Nance. Still don't quite understand why it only happens once a year.

Hey Slave, was at Xumbugs at about ten to seven on Sat, chaos and confusion reigned, was looking for a peejoo and the Panda outfit but didn't see you - hooked up with a crew called the secret seven and went for the long loop almost out to Bass Lake and back - nice ride

In retrospect I probably wasn't visible enough amongst all the lads- if you guys come from Alberton down Swartkoppies, will wait on the corner across the road from Xumbug so we can catch one another.

Hey Narco, glad you finally came down from that mountain of yours. Sorry I missed you.

I was wearing the look long sleeve psychadelic Zebra on Saturday and not my usual Panda Kit although I was in the Panda shorts.

Like I said, got snakebite on the rear tyre so had to stop and fix that and everyone left me way behind.

Used to be, I was recognisable by the tacky "Tackies" I rode in but now have zooty shoes so that negates that identification tool.

Think maybe next weekend, we do as you say and I will meet you at the intersection before you turn into Swartkoppies at Xumbugs.

Hey WW. Just as I thought.

My legs were seriously sore from trying to chase down bunches after my "anti venom" (puncture repiar) on Saturday so I just "floated around the hood yesterday, testing and aligning the shoes.

As I thought, they will not make me faster. They may help a lot, but I can see any increased speed although that would be hard to say as yesterday incurred no effort other than turning padals (More of a recovery ride.

Still a bit sore today so I may rest and go for a time trial tomorrow and get a better idea of how I feel after some "effort cycling".

Initially they felt wierd and I noticed that I had to raise my saddle about an inch.

Time will tell.

BTW, not a word of this to Trubue because he insists the shoes will make me faster. After some testing, I will prove the theory one way or the other.

Hope the humble pie doesn't taste too bad if I am wrong.

Slave, have you ever done a spinning class??

You can put 10 pairs of tekkies and toe-clips on the balance scales, but the balance will still tip the way of cleated shoes.

Frosty, no dude, I haven't done any spinning classes.

I plan to spend some time this winter working on speed and interval training more than LSD. Obviously, I will still do a few long slow rodes, but I want to focus on speed training to get a bit faster and stronger.

Hear what you say about the shoes. They will be more efficient and I need to change my riding style to be more efficient as well, so I have some work to do yet.

My coaches will no doubt assist a lot. (AKA GOv2.0 and Trubie)
