But I'm a honnerary souffener (promise I won't chuck my water bottle at a taxi!) I can like to get der wiffout a visa (is a mastercard ok tho?)

Foresooth, asking Nance to take car of kid's kid.

Hey Kid. You shirking your baby sitting duties here dude? Don't worry dude, we'll look after him well. He can do some hill accelerations with me like we did on the berg bus. I helped him beat you up one of those hills. The little Kid has potential.

So looks like we have about a dozen or so for Saturday. Cool. Looking forward to a peaceful ride.

Sounds like the kind of ride Dash should be party to.

Ox, sounds like I will have to bring my toolbox along mate? Something like our first bunch ride together? Stop every five minutes to adjust forks. (Mind you, I will have to leave you to do all that stuff with your learner co-pilot. I might just stop a fat smack if I start adjusting and forking.

My son will be joinning you guys on Saturday' date=' please make sure you don't leave him behind.

He ain't that fast, so OX no 1km sprints, the 30sec are ok - he managed those when we came back from Heidelberg.
[/quote']

WHAT?!?!? I can sprint for a full km at a time? And here I thought it was only 200m MAX at a go...

Anyhow 'twas you who pulled at the front for extended periods of time if I remember correctly. I nearly had to beg you so I can have my turn up front so I can go rest at the back again!

I don't think I'll do any kind of sprints this coming weekend. Will be watching over my recruit. Ensuring future participation in cycling and duathlon events (MTB & Road)

Ox my man, I am shock-ed I tell you, no word of lie. Shock-ed.

Here I was thniking you such a cool friend and your whole agenda is to bring a new recruit to the cycling world and then treat them with kid gloves so whoever it is may want to ride again.

Dude, that is such a lie. Cycling is a whole new world of pain and there aint no way to sugar - coat that.

Best just get them along (by sort of playing down the pain) then we just hurt them on the steps and the trial by fire is over. They will either love it or hate it.

No beating about the bush dude. The truth, the whole truth and nothing but the pain. Your buddy is going to hurt you when they find out about this small ommission. And I would love to be there to see it. Mwaahahahahaha.

So now I see the lie of the land, you are out here looking for duathletes to recruit and Nance is liiking for mud converts. Damn I hate being so slow. It sucks when you find hidden agendas months after thinking you had a good friendship going.smiley29.gifsmiley18.gif

So Slave when are you doing a duathlon...?
Posted

I was about to take to the road and start running again. Even put on my old running shoes that I have been saving for jst such an event.

The soles have deteriorated so badly, the shoes are boegered. Absolutely useless. smiley35.gifsmiley19.gif

So, there go any thoughts I had on doing some secret duathlon training. RATS.

You'll have to wait until I can get some new shoes but I think right now, I would like a new bike first.smiley22.gif

And Nance wants me to go do the dirty thing on those bikes with big frames and fat tyres. Eish, the dilemma gives me a headache. (Hy smokkel my kop, but then I guess, most things do. Like my new cycling shooz.)

Yep, those soles don't last forever! They loose all their magic shock breaking abilities over a reasonably short period of time!

What baffles yer mind about the new cycling shooz? You still think it does not make sens that foot cladding can make you faster/less tired?

Ever thought of  them vs tekkies as running on asphalt vs the soft sand on thee beach?
Posted

Ox,I was seriously bummed dude. I was looking forward to doing some road work and surprising you. And to think what they cost a few years ago. I should have worn them to death.

I can get my head into the idea of improved efficiency. Less foot flex making the power stroke more efficient, thus saving energy and therefore helping with fatigue.

As for speed. No way. Same legs, same leg revolutions. Shoes cannot improve leg speed. This is just illogical. This is why I don't believe that shoes will make me faster. Maybe more efficient and perhaps a little faster over the longer distance due to improved energy saving, but not a significant enough improvement.

I can understand the diffs between running on the beach and running on tar. Huge diffs. The diffs between tackies and toe clips, and cycling shoes and cleats isn't anywhere near such a big diffs as beach and tar. More like running on a very smooth hard sand road and tar, but not beach and tar. Never. The difference is really not that significant.

And they don't even go with my new "jean pant". So I can't wear them as accessories if they don't work.smiley19.gif

Had to laugh at MIL the other night. She says to me, so where do the new shoes live?"

"In the garage" I say.

"Aren't you worried that someone will steal them?" "They were expensive shoes and you really should take better care of them."

So I politely tell MIL that "they are very specialised shoes and anyone doff enough to steal them will be able to do absolutely nothing but cycle in them. The soles have zero flex".

"The shape of them makes them impossible to wear as shoes even without the cleats, something like when you break your heels of the high heels you wear."

I can see she's not convinced yet, but she can half unnerstand. The thing about heels worked for her. She can relate to that.

Eish Trubie, work is definitely the curse of the hub addict. It interferes with your post count and sometimes intelligent drivel.

So, yesterday very late afternoon, I decided to chance a quick hard, short ride instead of resting as was the initial plan. I felt I might need to do some quality speed work so I can keep up with Ox, Nance and Kid's kid on Saturday.

Pulling away from a stop street, Klunk. Bottom bracket ball bearings gone.

WTF, I just changed them a short while back.

I can only put it down to all the power generated by those new shooz. Eish.smiley19.gif The thing that upsets me more than anything is my Saturday ride is now in doubt.

Suggest we stop at Rietvlei on the way back up Swartkoppies for coffee and stuff.

Mr. Bond-Louw. That is not a halfway bad suggestion at all.

In fact' date=' There is plenty parking at Rietvlei and it is probably a good idea for us to all meet there and ride from there and back again. Then we can have coffee after our ride (and perhaps I can mooch another of those bar-one pancakes off you.) Mwaahahahahah.

Comments fromthe rest of the ride crew. (Be gentle with me I am feeling fragile today given the condition of my [s']bike[/s] farm gate.)

We ride from Rietvlei these days rather than Panorama and it is far more convenient and practicle. Plus the grub in the coffee shop is great!

I have no idea where Rietvlei is... so can't comment, but willing to learn said location!

Slave, you better fix your bike QUICK! no backing out now - it is too late for that!

I think Rietvlei is a good idea. smiley20.gif

PS Nancy, Rietvlei is one step closer to getting these boys on some fat wheelssmiley4.gif

.....and Wendell hires out bikes so you don't have any excusesmiley15.gifsmiley36.gif
