So Slave is now stiff necked too...

Poor missus S.

Must have her hands full now

Just did a nice short loop, not so cold though as last week, but it was not warm either!!

Cant say without lying that I am looking too much forward to tmrw.

Legs felt really sluggish today. Not enough time on the bike dude - learn the lesson for once and for all (sorry, I was just talking too myself- nothing new though)

Get better soon Russ

Welcome back Owlman

IanJ...have not touched the bike in 3weeks...so racing wont be a good idea.

Ian's right...why the 40km?

Slave...I'll send you a secret sms with a time and place for that secret Comaro training!!!

Well IanJ, the thing is we did learn something from the ride last weekend. Simply this, we are living "la vida Loca" and riding at the crack of dawn in minus four may be well suited to polar bears, but not this softie.smiley2.gif

I am still scarred from the ride and have spent the whole week in therapy just to get brave enough to ride a bike again.smiley19.gif

The 40 k race was cool. Never got to have my energy bar or gel. I was just too busy.

Did it the time of 1hr 6 minutes which was about six minutes faster than the time my other coach allowed me for the ride. The speedy boys dropped my sorry @ss on the very first climb. Spent pretty much the up to about 10 k's collecting the debris that fell off that super fast bunch. The debris fell in behind and when I realised there were about 5 of us, I decided to drop back for some rest and recovery. We ended up working well together and it was a good bunch to be in.

Almost face planted close to the end as I'm not used to the 175 cranks yet. Had to take the corner very wide to keep the rubber side down. Caused a bit of a giggle in the bunch and some interesting comments.

At the end, I realised that 40 k's is a bit short for a race, but it was good fun all the same.

Finished about 2 minutes behind the ever improving Trubie.

Good ride there mate and thanks for the invite.smiley20.gif

GO' date=' I'm with you (sort of). The weather she just ain't warming up.

I had the same problem as Nancy, my bikes tyres were going flat but I pumped them up on Saturday  [img']https://assets.bikehub.co.za/legacy_images/smilies/smiley4.gif[/img]smiley4.gifsmiley4.gif

When I grow up I'll be like you GO, 3 weeks off the bike then on the 1st ride back, straight up Comaro - eish you the MAN!!! and you'll probably still beat Slave to the top (sorry Slave but my money is still on GO).

Kid, GO will probably ride to Camaro from Meyerton first and then beat me up Camaro. Ride from Meyerton would be a little warm-up.

I will go out and do it again this week, probably tomorrow. Good training, but eish, so hard on that close ratio box of mine. Done enough times, I can only get better and stronger and maybe when I grow up I can also be like the Owl and just fly up there.

I still have to conquer Pieter Ackroyd though.

Nice time for the 40km ride Slave! Sometimes a short race is good for the legs...it opens up the lungs and burns the cobwebs out of the engine!

How far down on the guys were you Slave?

Which route did you go? Out past Sasol? Or out towards the barrage?
Posted

Slave, good to see you guys yesterday.

We did the 80km with all the racing snakes from Cyclelab, Paint Pro, Western Wheelers etc.

There was a 2 man break away with 2 of the Western Wheelers youngsters and the chase was very negative with the Western Wheelers guys messing up the pace line. They eventually stayed away and had 55sec at the end. We finished in the chase bunch of about 12 guys.

The distance was short at only 63km and our time was 1:36. Did you guys check the distance of the 40km?

GO the route was out past the Barrage and then to Louisrus and back, VERY flat.

Oh...nice thanks IanJ.

Sucks when the guys race negatively...and mess it up like that, but then again I guess thats racing hey?!

That Barrage route is nice and flat!

GOv2.0. Not too sure of the route mate. Just followed the herd and the directions of the marshalls.

The route from the start at Stonehaven was up the hill, right, and then left. LEft again at a T junstion for a few Km's and then right to another. U turn and back the same way. An out and back route.

I ended up about two minutes behind Trubie and I think he was in the top ten. (I think he said about 5th.) On the last km to the fininsh I put in an effort to catch and pass some guy ahead of our group who was riding slower than our bunch and made it across the line ahead of both the group and the other chap. A fairly strong surge (or interval) at the very end.

I enjoyed the distance because it gave me the chance to race without worrying about the distance or if I could do the route. After I got dropped, I just went along at my best pace without killimg myself and caught up with another five riders who stayed with me and we formed another group.

The whole time was just hunt down the guys in fron, catch and pass as many as possible.

Oh and BTW, it was a short course so I'm happy with the time I did, but it really isn't spectacular.

The course was about 3 k's short. So really not all that great. Not bad, but not good.

Nice dude...thats a really cool route to ride as well. Just be glad you didnt go over Ertjies Berg! I HATE that climb, and the one leading up to it!!

But thats a nice ride for you dude. Seems Trubie is getting stronger? How far down was he on the winner?

I am not up to speed on the term "negative racing".

GO, you and I need to spend sometime together so you can 'splain it to my dumbass.

63 k's is way short. A couple of km's we can still maybe understand but wish 17 is waaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaayyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy short.

Rotten scoundrels, you pay for 80 km's, one would expect to get 80 km. smiley2.gif

Negative racing - in this situation what happened was a team had two guys up the road in a break away. We were trying to chase them by getting a paceline going where we all take short turns on the front and keep rotating. The team with the guys in the break put guys in the pace line but they don't roll through so it means we have to come from 3 or 4 riders back to get back to the front which disrupts the rhythm.

As GO mentioned it is normal racing tactics and a function of how many team members they had in the race to be able to do it.
