Gels are too finicky for MTB' date=' rather go for those small bottles (like water bottles) with about 4 servings of gel in, much easier / cleaner [img']https://assets.bikehub.co.za/legacy_images/smilies/smiley4.gif[/img]

Before you go down the tubeless route, rather buy yourself a bottle "slime Tube Sealant" (The green stuff) and use that in your wheels... I do, and punctures is something other people get.. easier to repair next to the road as well (if needed) Wood(not thorns) has become a permanent feature of my wheels.. A while ago I demo'd the sealing effect to somebody, and took pliers and  pulled  a few, spun the wheel around a few (<10) turns, and all was sealed again! Just like magic (not the forest!) ... Lower tech solution, and all.... smiley2.gif easier on the budget as well smiley20.gif

Thought it was pretty fast and not much technical but loads of sweet singletrack.

That zigzagging at the end was a bit tough on the mind but still enjoyed it even though the legs were toast by then.

At least us 10km riders flattened that last section out for you okes... Could unfortunately not do anything about the zigzagging smiley36.gif

Low tech, easier on budget but not nearly as cool as a ghetto conversion and it doesn't cost much either smiley2.gif

Trubes come join us at Rietvlei zoo farm 1 or 2 evenings' date=' you learn quick there![/quote']

You clearly dont understand BB

I battle in bright daylight to stay on the single track, so at night. 2 Chances of that happening.

I took the bike for its first outing to Rietvlei, paid, was told to do the green route - I knew it was wrong, yellow is the short one... but being a idiot, I went off on the green route, out of that winding tree section, up that first hill, almost lost it and crapped my pants going down other side....

did some of the section at the back, decided it was getting dark, betta get out while I'm still alive. Out the trees and left to go back up where I had minutes before come down, wanted to downshift while turning, forgot the bike wont have any momentum, so stopped pedalling - ended up falling over into some sort of a bush thing on my left, ego bruised and leg dented. When I got to the top, that descent between those boulders almost got me to walk, and I realized this was not something to try on yr first outing, but I will never try it at night. smiley18.gifsmiley18.gifsmiley18.gif

My weekend rides were "interesting".

Was way to lazy to get out of bed on Saturday. Hangover also wasn't nice. Been so long since I had one I forgot how bad they feel.

Saturday did a mid morning 30 on the Hybrid and did 73 on Sunday.

Startedout with the fast bunch on SUnday but thy must have been on reverse gear. Going so slowly I left then at Walkervill and went on my own. Some decent hill accelerations and intervals.

Stopped at the Circus to see Trubie and Oxman but only managed to see Trubie start his 30 odd km MTB race.

Man, so much dust. By the time the last of the riders had crossed the start, the leaders were out of sight already and the midfield were kicking up some serious dust along the route.

Met up with Jackie and ended up having a very slow ride home from the circus. Helped her up the steps a bit so at least I got some exercise.

BB I guess Trues was worried about having to hold a candle while riding the MTB.

He already said he had difficulty riding with one hand, especially over rough terrian.

You left out that the fast boys turned right and never went up Walkervillesmiley2.gif

Wonder Woman is battling with a few things at the moment so had an easy ride...did some good hours though and bonked badly the last 10kms...Decided if I can't go hard, I might as well go longsmiley4.gif

"note to self, always make sure you have enough food on you when going for hours in the saddle"smiley9.gifsmiley11.gifsmiley36.gif

After seeing Slave at the Circus I left the bunch at the fourway stop and went up Drumblade, got lost and did some sand road riding, then came home down Walkerville hill ...got in a good 115kms!!

They started that MTB race really really late?? Why??

No idea WW but we 77k were supposed to start at 8:30 but we started at nearly 9 ........

I heard something about starting the 110k and the 77k women at 8:30 and then the 77k and of course all others distances later.

OK BB so if I have this right you were supposed to start at 8:30 with the 77k women smiley2.gif.

You weren't wearing that pink top again were you?

Hey WW. That is a long ride.

Did 124 a coule of weeks ago when I did the TDS. I was really tired and NAAFI when I got home. smiley18.gifsmiley11.gif

Thing is, when I left the bunch yesterday, I had no idea which way y'all went. All I knew at the time was it was very slow and frustrating at the timeso decided I needed to get the hammer down. (Not that I'm all that fast, but I got crazy riding slow.)smiley9.gif

I have no idea why the race started so late. Had loads of quips about it starting so late though. I think they started the 40 something race about 40 minutes late.

So anyone who had a warm-up ride before had that warmup negated by getting old in the start pens.

I think if they started any later it would have been a Christams day ride.smiley36.gif

we started at 9:15, in stead of 8:45 - certainly was no joke standing around since somewhere past eight............

by the time we started Imagine how nervous I wassmiley2.gifsmiley2.gifsmiley2.gif

no good not eating on the long ride WW -always be prepared for the worst girl.

What did you do on Sat? Did you go short loop?

I need to start working up towards 200kms as I might be doing the double century and need to be able to "race" 200kms....so a looong way to go still. It always amazes me how the distance gets to you more when you are alone!!

I'm normally comfortable up to about 130 - 150kms...then it starts hitting me!!

Those guys were goig slow, the whole way, which suited me perfectly considering how I was feeling!!!!
