Too right. You have to be tough to overcome that.smiley17.gifsmiley2.gif

I'm more scared of Rosettenville and Turfies today than I am of the steps and the lido hills together. You can throw butchers into the mix for good measure.

I've been up both butchers and the Lido hill (towards Soutgate) this week, but I haven't been to Rosettenville for Months.

Ja, Osman, sien more. Was that at four am to fix the bike or 6H40. smiley2.gif  (gotcha, it is 6H40 (5) at FNB Bracken City. )

I'll try to be on time this time.

'twill be good if we can leave kinda on time. Not good starting a ride with the heart rate on the wrong side of the lactic threshold!

Osman, (ROFLMFAO)

's a five to seven minute ride from FNB to Xumbugs. I will make sure that we arrive in time to rest and talk a bit more cr@p before we head out. Get heart rates and lactic thresholds back in line with more civilised levels.

Spaso, you missed a good ride, man.

I got an SMS from Oxman just before my alarm went off and sent it to GOv2.0.

When I arrived at Bracken City, Ox was having all the fun. Two lunatics were driving over the pavements, street signs and dust bins (those concrete jobs) in the parking lot. Man I was p1ssed. I missed out on all the fun. The two young dudes were so slammed they could hardly stand. I rode off to call Metro who were speed checking down the road. Security called SAPS and they caught the buggers. Yeeeeeeeeeeehhhaaaaaaa. I believe that there are a number of charges against them but that's for another time.

So, once all the exitement of drunken hooglians was out of the way, and Ox and I raced to Xumbugs, getting there in time to slow heart rates and breathing down to normal levels, the ride eventually commenced.

Firstly, going up the Lido hill towards Walkerville, I was trying to chat up Nance. Jlouw kinda cornerd the market on her, so I decided to chase the lead bunch. Kid, Owl and Ox were flying while I struggled to close them down. Then they stopped.

A few hill accelerations, speed intervals and other funky bike moves later, we stopped at the circus for coffee. What a cool place. Had some very intersting chit chatover coffee and half of JoeLouws pancake.

Then it was back on the road. Homeward bound. The owl pushed Nance along at a speed that I could not even keep up with. "Oh cool, he's blowing his strength and I can Klap him on the steps." were my thoughts, until we hit the steps. That bird can fly. I sucked on his wheel all the way up, with Ox in comapny, we both tried hard to wear him down.

So, with ego in tatters and tail between legs, Owl, you rock those steps dude.

It was an absolute pleasure to ride with you and the rest of the gang on Saturday. I had a great time on the ride, loved meeting both JowLouw and Nance. GOv2.0, for someone of your ability, you are one of the most helpful and humble people I have ever met. I look forward to many more rides with you on Saturday mornings.

It also needs to be said, that after chasing this mad crowd around for 77 k's on Saturday, I needed my nap. It was a hoot. (No pun intended.)

S2L, it was an absolute pleasure meeting you.  You could've chosen a better spot than that smiley35.gif hill to try and chat me up. I couldn't even humour you if I tried puffing and panting, red faced and sweaty (oh boy I think I'm opening myself up to much abuse here)... so unflattering... and my cycling shorts make my bum look fat smiley2.gif

Anyway, as I struggled to catch up with you lot, Joe very kindly entertained me so the hill passed in no time. Thanks Joe smiley31.gif

I felt kinda bad holding everyone up 'cos I know you coulda left me behind eating dust at any point, but I enjoyed the ride regardless.  Thanks to Joe, Slave and GreyOwl for taking turns keeping me company at the back (Dash you owe me bigtime) Coffee and company was great smiley20.gif

I have to agree with you on GO2.0.  A more patient rider I am yet to encounter. For someone of his ability to hang around with less than capable riders (I.e. me) and offer encouragement and support is great... I was also quite impressed with his off-road skills smiley2.gifsmiley36.gif

Thanks for an awesome morning guys, I couldn't think of a better way to start a weekend.

Saturday was a great ride, thanks to all involved, especially to GOv2 and IK for pushing the pace up front. It was a lot of fun. We can definately do this again. We all owe GOv2 some Energade/coffee, so he'll have to come along for a few more rides!

Slave, you're lucky for getting a bit a shut eye on Sat afternoon! I only saw the back of my eye lids on Sunday morning after 01:00! Got up at 5:30 to go do the souff & the steps AGAIN! It was bit of a tough, but fun-filled, weekend!

Any takers for doing the short loop with the fast bunch on Saturday?

So that was Saturday.

Sunday, eish, r should I say "Oh bugger." I initially set off for a run / ride with the big dawgs, but when I got to Xumbugs, I could feel some of the pain on the legs. So I played chicken and decided to have a 'lazy bunch ride.' Ol' moaner was in attendance but I paid her little mind and she didn't even cr@p on me when I passed he on the left, headng for the fron of the bunch.

Georgie looked like he was on a Sunday slow ride and I tried to get himto up the pace. I rode up front with him up to the Allewynspoort road. Here I found myself all alone up fron, but I was not about to slow down. Every time I looked down, I could see someones wheel which meant I wasn't alone. Into the wind the pace was a bit slower than usual, but 35 was the top of my limit.

I traded places with some other chap I haven't met before but he lead a bit before I got to the front again. Then one of the regular bunch leaders took over with about five k's to go to the stop street and upped the pace. Cool. The usual last k race ensued and we went over the bridge. I chugged along really slowly waiting for them all to close up which sort of only happened at the river bridge.

What surprised me was that the group just seemed content for me to lead up the steps. The first hill up to the railway line, I got the hammer down and hit it at 30. Slowed a bit on the flat section and blew some and then proceeded to hit that next hill (short and steeper) at the same speed. I could see that ever present wheel sucking on mine so I just kept going.

The next hill is where my wheels always fall off. It is closeto the top of the steps and is a good long pull. I managed to hang on, blowing like a steam engine, but still the group just hung behind me even when I only managed to get up there at about 24 to 25. (Confusing to me.)

On the "level" bit before the bridge, about 5 other members of the group rode past, Andrew saying thanks for the pull. ("Pleasure, you lazy bum." Not sure how was able to think about that, let alone say it given the way I was blowing. At the traffic light we all stopped and I told Andrew it was his fault I went up there the way I did and that since he had pulled me up so many times, I was happy to repay the favour.  How do you figure that he asked?

Simple dude, simple. The first time I rode with this group, you pulled me up at pretty much the same speed. Since then I have learned that it is the only speed to do the steps at.

The rest of the group ..... what happened to them? Eish, angaaz. Ol' Moaner, Liberty, and Carbon Bike boy plus all the rest, no-where to be seem.

After about three minutes of waiting and still no sign of the rest, Andrew joking about Helen and ice cold receptions and looks in the car park, a lot of laughs about this, we decided to carry on. Another mad race towrds Xumbugs. I tried a hill race up one of the few remaiining hills, but the tank was empty and I just could not hang on to the top at that speed. Got dropped at Vaal street.

So now, I guess I am persona non grata in the social group. Oh Bugger.

That plan to ride the group apart with the help of the owl and the kid just happened.

Now I guess I'm going to have to move on out to the faster guys cause Hell-en is gonna slaughter me. (It has become my understanding that her and Ol' Moaner, are one and the same.

Mission accomplished, I managed to stir up the bunch and such great fun doing it. Revenge is schweet (no, I lie, it is a thing of great beauty.)

So, the Ox and I, we made plans for this weekend coming, Short loop, fast bunch. Who's in. Spaso, maybe just the thing for you for Saturday.

Nance. As long as you enjoyed the morning, it's all good. As we spoke going up past the BP garage, we could all have been at different places.

You chose to drive a long way to ride with us and as "Southern Gentlemen", it was up to us to make sure our guests were comfortable and more importantly enjoying themselves.

I guess what I enjoyed most about the ride was that it had some of everything. I did a few hill accelerations, a couple of fast intervals on the flats and a bit of taking it easier.

I chased GO hard on the steps and I got everything I neeeded out of the ride. I hope you did too. I hope that you join us again sometime. I enjoyed having you on the ride.

I also want to extend an invitation to you to ride the "slow" bunch with you one Saturday morning. The group is a bit more structered and it may help to improve your group riding confidence. That is all you lack. (The confidence. Nothing wrong wth your rding skills at all.)

Oxman, I'm in for Saturday. Short loop, fast and furious.
