Well, I enjoyed the ride on saturday...and Nancy you really shouldnt stress so much. Its always cool to ride and chat, and you need to do some more rides so that your stronger for the road event you mentioned! My "off road" ability?! I'm calling Metro/Ekerhuleni to get that stretch tarred...I dont like dust on my bike!

Ah, Slave...I see you are getting stronger up the Steps dude!! I'm gonna go and paint your name in the road, TDF style!! "Allez Slavey"

Must admit, I was impressed with Agteros. Nice strong rider. Its good to see...and the Kid is getting stronger as well. He handled the Lido hill very nicely.

Joe, your little story regarding yor son had me chuckling all weekend! That was funny! (in a cute way!)

GO, I'm with you we got to get that piece of mud road tarred. All that mud on bike bike, is a big NO NO.

I had an awesome rest day yesterday, slept late and took it easy.

Nancy, my son is keen to come along with us the next time. Can I count on you to keep him company and pull him along ?

Sorry S2L, GreyOwl is still the man, up the steps, down the steps, on the flats, behind trucks.

S2L, seeing that you out rode me on Saturday I think you need to tell me more about your secrect traing, PM me (it's top secrect you know!!)

Doing the short loop on Sat is probably a good idea but I'll go slow - have a 80km race on Sunday & I need to get MiniMe's bike sorted out.

Eish you guys and gal, seem to have had a lotta fun on Sat.

Cant wait for 28th though, but after reading the last two posts, i must say I am beginning to really get cold feet......... and it has nothing to do with the inclement weather past couple of days!!

GOv2, u kinda like to make me smiley9.gif I see myself as 'kinda there but not quite' (definately not strong!) I just do what I can, and blow when I can't take it anymore, which is still waay too early. A 20m kick does not help a lot up a 500m hill! Will need to put in a lot of time and effort to get my riding up to scratch (learn to consentrate to stay in the bunches, or else to TT at 40-45km/h - think not!)

The gravel road bit was quite a novelty, fortunately our drop handle bikes did not look like Holy Roller's after the Hub ride on Sunday smiley36.gif

The only thing I missed was the socialising on the bike bit.. See, I'm getting quite old (Busy staging my life for my midlife crisis smiley4.gif), and having spent my student days in Jaquelines in front of the speakers, does not help to hear voices above the wind noise of my MTB helmet smiley5.gif

So on the bike I just try to make the pedals go round and round - as fast as possible. I will chit-chat over an Energade inbetwix.

Nance, I'll tag along on S2L's offer of riding with the slow bunch (I just need to get to the middle of April first...) then it is MTB and more fun than training on the road. One of us can offer a wheel, and the other can ride next to you to make sure you get that 'boxed in' feeling (but non-threatning)! Maybe you can get HR to show off his road bike as well?

Slave, Yeah I'm right and ready for the short, fast & furious stuff on Sat morn. Will meet with you at the normal place (there where there is no dustbin anymore smiley36.gif)

GO' date=' I'm with you we got to get that piece of mud road tarred. All that mud on bike bike, is a big NO NO. [/quote']

Quite. Simply not a good thing at all. That sand road had my eyes wobble so badly, I had trouble seeing after that. My age has nothing to do with myopia.

Sorry S2L' date=' GreyOwl is still the man, up the steps, down the steps, on the flats, behind trucks.[/quote']

No question about that. I saw him Push Nance along for a fair distance and I had trouble keeping up that speed, alone.

That owl can fly dude, no question. He whipped me fair and square.

S2L' date=' seeing that you out rode me on Saturday I think you need to tell me more about your secrect traing, PM me (it's top secrect you know!!)[/quote']

I did? When? You must have been on a different ride to me. Oh, wait, you did drop off on the steps.

(OK. The secret is this, I hung back when you and Ox were trying to fly with the bird and I was conserving energy. When it got to the steps, I focussed only on the Owl's back wheel and kept going hard as I could. I'm sure owl was just idling along.)

Another secret is this, that 100 k's you and I did, you kicked my butt and I struggled. Then when I did it with Pierre, I got stronger. We need to do that loop again. It is good for leg strength (hills) and endurance. Oxman, you need to do this Heidelberg loop with us. It is a great ride and it will give you more endurance to add to your speed. The combination of your speed and more stamina will make you a more complete rider. (I say this of course out of respect for your current ability and speed. You only lack a bit of stamina and you can take your riding to a higher level dude.)

I agree with ya KId. Just have a gentle slow bunch ride. I'm sure Hell-en will be a bit more subdued. I think yesterdays ride took he breath away.

Ox and I will see you before we head out with the faster group. Hang onto that steel pony. Yeeeeeehhhaaaaaaa.

Nuwbie. What is significant about the 28th dude?

Oxman, it's NEVER too late to have a happy childhood.smiley2.gifsmiley36.gif

The lekker thing about this bunch is that everyone usually has a spot in the bunch and not much "Racing" happens. ('k there is just a tiny bit but very predictable, so no reason to panic. It is a very easy bunch to ride.

smiley36.gifsmiley36.gifsmiley36.gif(ROFLMFAO).

Those dudes got arrested. Security called SAPS and Metro arrived. They got busted for leaving the scene of an accident, damage to property, being under the influence and one of the security guards is laying a charge of assault against one of them. Plus, it is a company car and there is a fair bit of damage. So them bin breakers, they in deep brown smelly stuff.

Eish, glad I didn't have to wake up in chookie with a hangover and all that brown stuff coming down.

'My speed'? Jeepers I HAVE SPEEDsmiley3.gif ? Just don't tell SAPS! Anyhoo, I don't think I'm fast if that is what you mean smiley36.gif

Slave, I agree that I need quite a bit of long steady distance in my legs.... how about the weekend of 4/5 April? The weekend B4 that (29mar) I'm doing a duathlon @ Roodeplaat dam... Thinking of doing a race on 19Apr (hex-permitting)

So what's the chance of doing the Heidelberg loop on the 28/29 March ?

Niks' date=' nada, nothing, zilch for  me, I need to be race ready on Sunday (5km run, 30km road bike, 2.5km run) I did the MTB version of that middle march after the 100km Randfontein race and it was too much for one weekend!

That's why I can only make it the weekend after.... then it is easter weekend, and then it is the Wilro, which I think of doing as my last pre-winter road race - maybe I can stick to a fast bunch and get a good time [img']https://assets.bikehub.co.za/legacy_images/smilies/smiley36.gif[/img]

Kid, check out Oxmans post before yours.

Last time I did that loop, I did 111 k's. Bit too far to do two weekends in a row. Can we plan to do it all on the same weekend?

I would like to try and accomodate everyone, but my legs can only take so much distance.

Nuwbie. What is significant about the 28th dude?

That is when I will finally be available to dare a ride with you bunch. If you go back a couple of these 60 pages, you will find a promise I made to join then.

So the significance lies in the fact that:

 - I can finally meet the hubbers from the south (its better to say Alberton is in the south than in the east hey?!)

- It could easily be the day that my cycling career finally takes off, or abruptly ends (especially if I listen to the steps and the race up there)

- lastly its the birthday of my MIL

PS - the day will only be significant if the ride is on, but the way you and the team are training, you might be so tired by then, that we might just find ourselves without a group

Sorry guys...I cant on the weekend of the 28/29th. I have provincial track champs on those 2days. But, once you are finished with the ride, feel free to stop past Hector Norris Park and come support the racing! Its cool to watch cycling in its purist form...and you can see the action all the time!

Nuwbie, how about a quick / short(er/ish) loop on the 28th, and then a longer (Heidelberg) ride the weekend after?

I've not been to a track (bicycle) meet yet, so this sounds like a good plan for the Saturday. Is this on Saturday, or Sunday?
Posted

Its over both days. The first day is generally all the relevant qualifying rounds, and sunday is for the finals. Although, I am not sure of the exact program.

Come watch, and I can also explain as to how the different events work. It can be a little confusing if your watching for the first time!

But its always good to watch and support. And track in SA needs support!
