Slave, last time at SBR I did it in exactly 2 hours. Besides when we were going to SBR you were close to 2:30 so an extra 30 minutes odd allowing for your current condition is reasonable.

Besides, we did Hub rides to SBR in the past so why not do a few more?

I have been pressured for the last few months by Kid and Trubie to ride out south (excluding SBR). I need to get some training in this weekend for 94.7 so thought that this weekend would be good to venture south. I do have an ulterior motive and that is to get Kid up north for a triple hill climb (Krugersdorp Hill, Sterkfontein Hill and Rudd)   But he says before he comes up north I have to go do a ride in the south. I may just be south on Saturday and Sunday though. I really need to keep up the momentum with my training after the two little rides I did in KZN a couple weekends ago. It was climber's heaven!!!! :D

Andy. I am supposed to be the one with the poor memory dude. You know, "Old timers".

My best run around SBR is somewhere closer to 2h 50. But I will check my stats and confirm. I think I would battle to do it in 2 hrs flat in my car.

That's a very good time. Something like what greyowl used to do it in. Any faster and you will be in breach of the general speed limit imposed in the reserve.

Andy, Andy, Andy. Ever the legal eagle. Subtle play on words that can be backtracked at a moments notice. (But I never said THAT your honour. (read as "I defintely implied it") The defence / prosecution has misinterpreted / misunderstood me.)

Have you ever noticed that most politicians have a law degree?

Those who don't make it as lawyers get to be politicians.

I think Andy, the idea is to give princess a gentle introduction to us hubbers. Not overwhelm the poor dear. Taking her on a hub ride in SBR would be overwhelming for me. I think the objective here is to have a slow gentle ride, assess her riding abiliites and then perhaps invite her on more strenuous rides later.

Frikking law peeps. You know? ;)

ox, does the rest of that one go: "Jill came down with half a crown and Jack got what he was after."

Slave, thanks for the idea! Maybe I should go into politics. I could get you as my campaign manager. Of course you will be properly compensated. ;)

Ok, I just checked my cycle log and my best time around SBR was in fact a 2hr34 when I last rode there with Ha-Ha Kieran. 16 December 2009 just a few short weeks before I had an unfortunate meeting with a pavement at speed.

Speaking of whom, he has been rather quiet of late. Anything to do with his bikes he is now an agent for?

Dude, you're on. I'll be your campaign manager. I just won't ever answer any questions about what you said, because only law peeps and other politicians ever understand law peeps and other politicians. I think though that politicians have an advanced degree in mumbo jumbo. They say sh!t for like ten minutes nad t sounds all rosy and wonderful. It gives one that warm fuzzy feeling while somewhere in the back of one's mind is that terror of knowing that one is being......

So it's been fun. Not productive but fun. Outa here. Tomorrow I need to work so I may only be back sometime next week to check on final arrangements for the hub ride the weekend of 6 or 7 November 2010 since Ox was so thoughtful in changing the date. I may just end up driving the recover vehicle if it is to be sat 06 Nov.

Humming birds Honda.

After almost 1 year off the bike decided to get a new (second hand bike) and started riding again, been back on the bike for 3 weekends and decided to do go with the bunch on Sunday, but feeling as fresh as I am after such a long layoff I got on the bike at 5:45am and did the loop clockwise and met up with the bunch on Swartkopies, indications of wind were not good. Fukc it was blowing

Followed the bunch up Lido hill, bearly made it over the top with the bunch, (held on to a scooter following the bunch) only for a little ...... all tailwind, passed Boscoe, started taking strain, but held in there. :P

Passed Henley towards SBR, then the wind hit & the legs were screaming, there was no way I was going to ride home for 35 km's into a hell of a head wind on my own  .

Hung in there for all I was worth, made it to Rand Water board road at the railway line I blew up, with butchers still to klimb I knew I was in trouble BIG TIME  .

Time to phone the wife, too bad, her phone is off,

I have been up butchers hundreds of times but not in the condition I was in on Sunday, what a flashback to pain and suffering.

I have no idea how long it took me to do the last 15 km's home but it felt more like 50.

Will be back for more

Hi guys :) what is an SBR ride? I like the idea of the ride next weekend on the 6/7. Will check in closer t the time for details. Where is Reitvlei?

SBR is Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve. About 56km one way, tarred, windy and HILLY.

This is the place where

  • Masochists hang out
  • Kid goes to break his chain
  • Mountain goats go to convince the rest of us we are not true cyclists
  • You go when you've sinned and need to repent, but you are not Roman Catholic so you do not have the option of 5 Hail Marys.

Rietvlei is the Rietvlei Zoo Farm (where Cycle Hub, the LBS, is), on Swartkoppies Rd (R554) between Kliprivier Drive (R556) and Hennie Alberts Street. About 2km away from where the groups start (c/o Kliprivier & Swartkoppies, which is just after the intersection next to Xumbugs)

SBR is Suikerbosrand Nature Reserve. A climber's paradise. The loop is only 57km odd but it has about 1100m odd of climbing. If you did the Race 4 Victory a few weeks back it went through the second part of SBR. Great place to train. Not advisable unless you are in a fairly good fitness condition. Some say that it is a hard ride. I like riding there, very much in fact. But for me it is quite a drive to get there. One day when you feeling adventurous and want to push yourself with your riding you should try it.

SBR = SuikerBos Rand Nature Reserve. Lots of serious hills.

Rietvlei is situated on Swartkoppies road. If you driving from Klipriver towards Alberton it's on your left hand side. Used mainly by MTB (Mountain Bikers), roadies just use the parking.

Ja, I told you it was about 2:30!!

I am actually about to go meet him. He is doing well. Just busy with his Bottecchia agency and also golf stuff.

Excellent! So you can arrange where I speak. Then I go speak for 30 minutes, say nothing but everyone things I said everything! We can get Kid as head of security seeing as he is a body builder and strong enough to break chains.

This all looking so good I recon we should bring out the tandem for the weekend

Then we have another lady (young) on route with us.

Let us know how things pan out.

Hey Predictor!

Would be great to meet again! You have been too scarce. As you have probably read I have bowed to pressure from Kid and Trubie to ride out south so most likely riding there this Saturday at least. Maybe Sunday as well.
