Slave: You will always be my hero mate

Truby I still aspire to train like you one day.

I want to climb like Andy.

Drink like Hanah

Look like the "Kid".

Then and only then will I be the perfect man

so with today being the 1st of nov, and only a few days to go before the race every man and his dog is training for at the mo (ok , not Slaveman & Ox, but all the rest), what is the planning - training wise for the 19 days that remain?

I'm planning on having 11 more training seesions (which will include 2 x interval sessions, plenty easy rides and lotsa Andy stuff {that is rest for those that dont speak Andy}, + 3 races and the Dome crit next tuesday........

I might not be training for the 94.7, but I'm aiming to do as close as possible to 55+km of running and 5+ hours of cycling per week for the coming month rolleyes.gif (and the next few as well biggrin.gif )

Yip, have 18 years of junk miles to catch up.

I ran ~480km during the last two months, and that allowed me to improve my 1/2 Marathon time from a shameful 2H06 to a disrespectful 1H49. Still in search of another 15 minute improvement before winter '11

Unfortunately for the running legs, I NEED to start focusing on the cycling AS well, as I need to be able to do a very fast 40km TT middle of '11, and not to have tired the running legs doing that.

Lots of sweat and hopefully no tears ahead ;)

Maybe you should give it a go, just let me know when so that I can bring the car - just in case.

Remember to calculate your equivalent time at x2.2 for every doubling in distance

Year before last I took a ride to the bridge at the top of Oxford to watch the peeps suffering up that long climb up M1 south to the top of the ridge. It was fun for a while watching some of those peeps walking their bike so early in the race. But only for a short while.

Then bones and I went and sat at intersection Sherborne and Jan Smuts and watched some of those peeps before taking a leisurely ride onto the M1 south at St Andrews and then going home.

Maybe I will do a similar thing this year and come and hurl abuse at those of you who are taking part. I'll check the map and finda spot.

So, we had fun yesterday. Going down Joe Slovo past Ponte, I had a blowout. Stopped and did the usual stuff, checked the tyre inside for stuff, decided there wasn't any thing to cause further puntures, put in another (new) tube, and off I went. Within 100 M I had a second blowout. So off with the shoes and walk the bike to the Garage opposite Ellis Park. Repair both punctures and really examine the insode and outside of the rear tyre. Nothing I can find. Put tube (now repaired) in, pump a bit, then off we go. Not another 100 m and I have the third. Now I know there is a BIG problem. Start to take tube out and I see where it's split. OK check tyre at the same position. It is worn through the sidewall just above the bead. Ohhhhhhhhh CR@P.....

So I get a bright idea. Stick patch over inside of tyre, patch tube (without the entire removal of the tyre and tube. Pump some more. Get on bike and off we go. 250 m later, the rear tyre deflates rather rapidly but not a blowout like before.

By now, I have spent at least and hour examining tyres, finding and repairing tubes, have run out of patches and am on my second tube of solution. I am seething with anger and frustration and I can see some very serious looking rain clouds hangin around. So we walk, push the bike and get on the phone. Ball and chain is not home so can't help me. Walk some more. Get more the mo3r-in and really start to get angry.

By now I am hungry, tyred and totally disheartened. The last concious thought I have of that episode was some dumbass in a taxi that irritated me for a reason I can no longer remember.

Trubes, if you want your bike back, it is firmly embedded in his rear end. I think the meat wagon took him to JHB gen to have it surgically removed.
