Those are the numbers. :P You need to come up north and I can show you route where you climb the equivalent of SBR if not more. Max gradient over 20%.

I just managed this 18% how am I suppose to get up there without falling over????

A few questions:

1. This on tomorrow morning?

2. Are once-off slowish newcomers welcome?

3. Everybody meet at Xumbugs (race track)

4. Is there parking available?

Every sat and sunday

Everybody rocks up, everybody welcome

Meet at the track to leave at 7 heading westwards

A lot of people park at the Pick n Pay and ride the 1km odd to the start, mostly downhill.

Ummmm, old news my friend! Agteros posted that in 2008 and has ridden there a few times.

Then it seems like it will be the Bosco loop with Hummy for me.

What is the matter Slave? Where is the old Slave who used to chase down trucks and ride fast? A sedate short loop. What would happen if I were to do that? Bet you would race up the steps again. And I would have the Specialized!

Afterwards it will hopefully be a milkshake and food somewhere!

That's exactly it, the Slave is OLD. :P

Sounds like an offer I can't refuse. ;)

You forget young one, that I commute 300 km a week. To still do another 100 on top of that on a weekend is just like a tiny bit out of my league. When I had my Cateye 8,it used to work out an approximate number of calories burned. I collated the data and got to an overall average of 24 cal per km. Assuming the calorie counter is approximately accurate, I burn the equivalent of 1400 cal per day. That's a little more than half of what the average person takes in per day. Which means that I have to eat 50% more than the average person. Given the budget I had last month, I was probably only eating half of what I should be. Probably accounts for the stick man I see in the mirror every morning. That dude scares me. :(

When I was riding fast and chasing trucks, I was doing about 200 to 250 km per week and that was just training rides with intervals and all that junk. Commuting is a different ball of wax. The objective of the exercise is to get to work fresh enough to actually work and then get home again. So intervals hardly ever happen, although I have been riding a bit faster of late with one or two hill accelerations, chase the odd cyclist (like yesterday going up butchers. Ren stopped on her way past me to give me some lunch, while I was packing it in my bag, a bunch came past me. It was great fun chasing them down and hen riding with them up the hill. Pity I could not keep my eyes open when I got to work though. :( (See, these are the little signals that the body uses to tell me to slow it down a tad.)

So, today I had like zero energy to commute so I drove in to the office. Will drive again tomorrow, take a slow bunch ride on Saturday (as a leg loosener) and join you lunatics for the long Bosco loop on Sunday. I have pre booked the cardiac ICU treatment center for after the ride. :P This is on the assumption that you are meeting at Xumbugs after your insane TT thing.

Where are we having brekkie afterwards?

You are denying yourself some great company PH, you sure are!

Thanks Ox. Flattery will get you everywhere. :D Go for it.

So, wassa matter with you? Why are you depriving yourself this weekend? Why not join this insane brigade? I'll seriously try not to get any punctures. :P

Methinks that HRH is worried about me being a DOM (Dirty Old Man)and that's why she is scared to ride with the old fart. Don't worry PH, currently married / seperated / probably soon to be divorced and have no interest in chasing around after skirts. The problem with chasing women is that at some time, sooner or later, I may inadvertantly catch one. That thought is enough to put an immediate halt to any such activities. (this is where there is serious need for a "terrified smiley"). Relationships and women are far more complicated than I can deal with. I prefer the bike. It's simple, has no hidden agenda, never has a headache / PMS / doesn't need any more pampering than a good wash once a week, a chain scrub and lube once a month, and the occasional tyre change.

Women on the other hand need constant pampering, diaper changes, have headaches, need all the stuff I no longer have the inclination to deal with. :(

Life is so much more simple now. Why would I want to complicate it again?

BTW, will soon be moving to Mondeor. (Yeeeeeeehaaaaaaaa). This will mean that for bunch rides on weekends, I will have to negotiate either butchers or the Lido hill. But, I will no longer have to climb butchers every day. Just one or two hectic bits on Columbine, or go via Southgate.

@Slave

Dude stop looking in the mirror before lunch, don't want you to be scared of "the man in the mirror".

There is a big mirror along the passage on the way to the shower. Kinda hard not to notice that poor little stick man. But, the really scary bit is how much I have to run around the shower to get wet.

So you think it will be better to look in the mirror after lunch? :P

Slave, if you getting to the office fresh enough to work then you must be riding EXTREMELY slowly which means that you have lots of energy for fast weekend rides.

Occasional tyre change? Given your recent record, I would hate to know what regular tyre changes are!

Doesn't Mondeor have lots of hills?

On Sunday we can have brekkie afterwards somewhere. Maybe Rietvlei again so Agteros can make another hole in the glass? Ideas? Suggestions?

I'm out for the next two weekends. Coming Sunday I'm running a quick(hopefully) 5km race, and next Sunday I'm doing the 200km Ian Kernick ride

Smartass :P . I been getting to work so worn out the past week or so, I have little naps at my desk. Used to be I fell of my chair laughing at you loons, but lately, I'm falling off my chair when I nod off.

Sure does. Columbine has some real nasty bits. Nothing like Butchers though. Oh, and the place I'm going to has a stunning view of the nature reserve. And a pool. Maybe one day, we can do a ride, then go back and do a pooitjie afterwards. I do a mean ox tail or lambs knuckle pot.

Rietvlei works for me. I was going to suggest the circus but then we still have a long ride home afterwards. Also remembered that the soon to be Liewe Exie number 2 will be going with her friend on some "teddy run" to Nasrec, so I have no obligation to invite her for brekkie. Also means I can ride all day if need be. Maybe, instead of turning left at the circus we can go past the SBR and do one or two hills there. Nice looooong ride that will keep me on the streets for hours on end.

Aint life grand?

All the more reason for you to join us this weekend. If my latest idea works, the route will be about 105 km. You can thus ride 100 and run the last 5. Good prep for your DC next weekend. :P

Although I seriously think anyone doing 200 on a bike is like a bit on the insane side. I can recommend a good shrink. Saw me once for ten minutes and diagnosed my problem immediately. I have never been the same since.

BigS, we have put you on the TT Start Sheet so you better be there! ;)
