Come now Slave! You will manage it no problem! Especially as a team working together you can sit in the line for awhile.

... is easier than what you think! It is more of a mental challenge than anything else, so stop telling yourself 'Eish' stories, and believe!! It CAN be done!

I have no doubt it can be done. I believe it is even done on a fairly regular basis.

However, there has to be a desire to do this. Now, I cannot dispute the fact that I am probably insane, but crazy I aint. :P

All this DC stuff is for you crazy hard core nuts. I'll drive the recovery vehicle if you cannot find anyone else. But even that may be hard work.

Dude, 200km sounds hard core, but trust me it is not all that bad. I've done a 200km this year, what have you done to make you so sure about it all?

Remember, you can't knock it 'til you've tried it!

Slavey - just make sure to plan yr 2011 in this fashion. Factor in the DC at end of Nov.

we have a year to put together a 12 man/rider team.

We obvioulsy wont go down there to ride 5:11 , but can comfortably aim for a 6:30 ish ride.

A team starts with 12 riders and 6 needs to finish to get an official placing. Over 200 teams do it and I'm sure we can too.

Lets make it a goal for next year and plan properly in the new year to actually achieve it.

We already have kit thanks to ha ha, we have a team name and we have some riders, so we need to decide what else is needed, get it on paper and plan how to make it happen. We need to do 3/4 160+ k rides in the 4 months leading up to the event and we'll be sorted.

Think about it, if you can only complete 3/4 of the ride its still fine, and besides its not all in one go, there are feeding zones where one can stop, get freash bottles, somethong to chow etc.............

lets just do it

Ok, here's the thing!

I'm a fair bit older than you chaps, yes? I am more of a scocilite cyclist than a racer, fair weather roadie poefter and all that junk. So far, so good. I might even be able to do a ride of 200 km at a serious push if I do a lot of training for it.

Given how I felt after doing a mere 125 before, during and after the Soweto Tour last year, I have a lot less belief inmyself than you chaps have in me.

But let's just say for now that instead of my out and out "NO!", I am at least thinking about it. Trubie puts forward a reasonably good argument for me to mull over.

What sort of average speed would we be doing to finish is say six and a half hours. Where is it and what does the course look like?

y'all realise of course that if I do this, once I start the ride, I just won't quit. I will finish it. It may kill me but I will cross the finish line if I cross the start line.

If we had to go do it today then we would obviously suffer. We are prepared to ride 100km rides now so they don't hurt too much and are manageable. In a year we will have prepared for 200km so it will also be manageable.

Read all about it..........

Ave would be around 31 - so quite a nice pace for all to be comfortable with

with yr base miles you will manage - even if we had to do it now

Thanks for that info Trubie. I just had a look at the route profile and I am wondering who is more Finsane. You peeps for wanting to enter a team or me for thinking about riding it as part of the team. One thing I am clear on is this. You peeps are crazy man. Just frikking crazy.

I think this is where I run for the door in a screaming fit of panic.

It would of course be a major accomplishmnt to finish such an event.

Blerry lunatics. :P

Route profiles are misleading and one for 200km is more squashed than one for 100km.

Perhaps we are crazy but with a year of preparation we will be much less crazy. And you know you are just as crazy as us.

If Ha Ha can go ride it after his illness and very small amount of training then you can ride it with a year of training!

I suppose this is the point where BigS hands you back the Pink Blouse. PH can even give you her crown. :D

Bwwwwwaaaaaaaahahahahaha ANdy. Route profiles are not as misleading as you think. Ha-Ha said it was pure gruelling pain. I have no reason at all to disbelieve this.

You and your simian genes wants to go and do this for all those "little spikes" on the route profile. They translate into some of the worst hills around. I was in that areas when I did national service, I know those Outeniqua mountains. Thems mean and thems NASTY.

And yes, I must be totally and utterly bonkers for even considering it. COUNT ME IN.

Just a couple of provisos, Tee's and Cee's (the fine print and sh!t like that.)

I want to be sure I can do this so I think we need to maybe get to Sabie sometime soon and as a team practice, we can ride from Sabie to Lydenburg. If I can do that, I think I might manage DC..

I will accept no responsibility for the team not making it if for some reason, I bomb. Of course, I intend to finish once I start but having said that, I am not sure I can manage an average of 30 for that distance and that route. Maybe you need to consider someone else who can help the team to manage that average. I will not hold it against any of you if you choose another team mate over me. If you choose me, I will give it my best to complete the entire distance.

And, pink blouses will never agin be associated with me again. :P

Pink knickers maybe, but not pink blouses.

What the Frikadel have I just done???????????????????????????? Oh crap!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Edit:

But, let's not get ahead of ourselveshere. This is all only next year. In around 11 months time.

What of tomorrow and Sunday? There are bikes to be riden. DC training starts now.
