Sheesh but the direction took one hell of a turn here. I go do a bitof work while answering a post and in the time it took me to post it, the thread has gone to Swellendam.

 

Trubes, your bus can take a few peeps. It would be smart to split costs and share driving on the way down and the way back. Maybe we could organise another bus as well. Depends. Splitting costs should make it a bit cheaper than flying. So yes, I agree, we need to keep the numbers down to bare minimum.

 

What about little S? Can he ride in the team? Seem to recall he gave up cycling. Please confirm.

 

And why fly to CT, Swellendam is close to Mossel bay IIRC.

Big S, I think we need to meet early Jan and task diff peeps with diff elements of the trip (eg one for accom, one for food, etc) then we give them 2/3 weeks, have a follow up meet and determine the total cost for each. Decide if we need to find a sponsor or two and so on.

I would suggest its better that all of us fly down. The car can carry 4/5 comfortably, after that it becomes a bit crowded for adults. We get a trailer and put the bike's on there. If needs be we take 2 cars and trailers. That will cover all the bikes and most luggage and spares and food stuffs and and

 

I am always on a shoestring budget , so I wouldnt want to fork out a small fortune either.

Booking flights early in the year wil ensure a decent rate and we could probably get away for less than 1500 pp for a flight.

 

I made the sums recently for the Argus and for me and my wife its cheaper to fly down and rent a car than what driving down would be. If we fly we only need to leave fri/sat and sunday eve we're back home, the one/s driving will take slightly longer.

 

Slave - flying to George will cost you 2/3 times than flying to CT would. Frequency , more options etc.

Ok here's the thing, I will ride my bike down there a-la Frail. I'll be leaving on Monday morning to be sure I am there in time.

 

I know it's early days yet, but 1Time are not showing any flights past September 2011 and don't even have any flights available to PE in September 2011.

 

So I think it will be difficult to get an exact costing of flights until mid next year. Maybe safe to budget on 1.5 to 2 K each. Looks like Kalula also offer a group discount.

 

I have e-mailed Kalula to see what their response would be.

My wish for you is that you travel safely and have a great holiday, get all the shooz you want and have a great Christmas and new year. Eat lots of Christmas food and be careful of the tequila.

 

Maybe I will get to meet you some day before I retire form cycling. (This even looks to be sooner than orginally planned. I ran Comrades in 88 and retired from road running immediately following the event. Tried many times after that to get back into it, but could never find the mojo to do it. That was about when I turned to bikes and cycling.)Maybe DC will be my Comrades.
