Emperors 1, me 0

Should have known this morning its gonna be one of those days when I managed to first of all push a safety pin on my number (that had opened) through a knuckle on my right hand when putting stuff in my back pocket, then my Polar HR monitor didnt show any HR, but it works each time when playing squash with it.

Last week my Ibike unit packed up and the replacement hadn't arrived at the post office by yesterday. So I had to revert to the Polar which didnt show anything but time today.

Anyway I gave it my all for 60mins and then blew big time. Have to admit defeat!

Well done to the rest of the team for whatever they achieved.

My time was somewhere in the region of 2:42... even slower than last week and this race was supposed to be 7 k's shorter than last week. so EPIC FAIL.

See Slave - what I said about A bunch is 100% true. I got caught with about 200m's to go by the B bunch . :(

Later

Just remembered I left out the most NB parts.

1. Clearly I am getting slower day by day - so pse believe me when I tell you this

2. Glad I could at least prove my "friends" right today

As they say - Life is great - but only when it suits us!!

Rumour has it that you did quite a few hectic things in the days leading up to the race... If true, maybe you burnt a few matches too many?

More importantly, did you enjoy yourself? Thats a very good time though!you have no idea what i would give to be able to finish in under 3hours for a race like that! we cant always have good days though trubie.

well done and glad to hear you finished safely!

A good race today. Chased a few breaks and worked on the front of the A bunch. Got a bit involved in the sprint and ended up with 16th position and 2:29:42 (winning A was 2:29:39). Felt much stronger this weekend that last weekend. Was happy with the way it went.

Trubie, sorry to hear about your race. Just remember that you program has the Argus as your peaking and feature race so don't be too unhappy with how today went.

How did the rest of you find the merging with the shorter distance riders? In our group it was terrible and one day there is going to be real carnage caused by them, worse than my Emperors 2009 crash!

@Trubie

Thanks for giving me a chance today but as I've already told you, there is no need for you to wait for me during the race. Wait for me after the finish line.

Trubie buddy you had a bad day, next week you'll be on fire again. We've all had tough days but they make us stronger.

As jy so kan lieg, dan kan jy steel ook. You just had a bad day. Dude, we all have them. I don't expect you will remember but I had a very bad day during my last Race fro Victory. (Not many races snce then, but I know and empathise with how you feel. Ride 4 Sight will be better.

But then again, you are training for Argus, and you have had some very good races, so don't let this one get you down my friend.

Well done Andy. I see a bit of fitness helps a tad I say what.

Is ride for sight this weekend? I may just make a plan to get out on the route and ride along for the heck of it. Depends on how hard my week is.

I am physically knackered. It's Monday and I want to sleep for 3 days.

Two fast, flat events on consecutive weekends.... first a running race, and then a cycling race. Some (okay just ONE) observations

After the running race (with a 76km easy cycle the day before) my legs were SORE, really sore. So much that I had to take two rest days the week after

After the cycling race (with a 10km easy run the day before) my legs were not sore at all, they actually felt stronger on the Monday after. I could do a hard tempo-ish run again this morning..

So what was different, other than running is tougher on the body/legs than cycling?

1. After the running race I did not rehidrate properly, neither did I eat anything meaningful for recovery. Only took some Rehidrat @ 16:00

2. Before the cycling race I drank a bit of Rehidrat, and after the event I immediately drank some more, as well as some Peptopro (Yeah Kid, I know you gonna tell me to use something else!)

Lessons?

Running is tougher on the body than cycling

Recovery, recovery, recovery... very important

Aside: My core and general leg strength MAJOR work :(((

So what you guys planning (out of the norm) to improve fitness/strength, etc?
