You forgot about the all important milkshake after the cycling race, well you just forgot to mention it.

You should also start swimming ;) ;)

Went out for a nice ride this morning, did 47km and the legs felt better than I thought they would. But I'm going to take it easy for the rest of the week because come Sunday the legs will have to do some climbing.

I was just planning on riding my bike to improve my fitness ? Yes / No ???

I will buy a Power Balance band - I will not pay less than 500 ZA ronds for it!

but as a tow rope it might be a bit elastic won't you say?

As someone who used to run a lot and now only cycles, I agree with you Ox. Running is far more strenuous and much harder on the body than cycling.

On all 4 of the standard Marathons I ran, I hit the proverbial wall at 32 km. Also happened on the only one Ultra I ever did and never on any of the 32's, or lesser distances I ran.

Recovery was much harder and longer for me as a runner.

As a sometime cyclist (Great pretender), I find that my legs are always sore after rides which means to me that I generally always cycle above LT. Even so, recovery is much easier. Cycling over 100 km is far easier for me than running 32 km.

Only thing is, it's much more difficult to get stuff on the move from a refreshment station as a cyclist. Big speed differential. :(

Not that cycling is for lazy peeps or anything, it is just much easier than running.

Trubes, it looks like I will be looking for a squash partner sometime soon. You game? First few games I need to ease into to get old and unused muscles working again.

There I fixed it

Slave dude we don't want to know anything about your unused muscles........pls keep it clean !!!

Besides Trubie is a married man.

BTW you know there's a camera just before the Caltex going towards Comaro ?

The speed limit there is 40km/h but I see you take over the RHS lane and fly down down..

I'm watching you !!!

why so quiet?

everyone out training or what??????

Speaking of which where is PH? Trubie had a good race at the Fast One and PH was very active. Trubie had a bad race at Emperors (and I think he attributes some responsibility for that to me "making his eyes pop out when he was on my wheel)and PH is very quiet. PH, are you ok? When you getting your new bike?

Two fast, flat events on consecutive weekends.... first a running race, and then a cycling race. Some (okay just ONE) observations

After the running race (with a 76km easy cycle the day before) my legs were SORE, really sore. So much that I had to take two rest days the week after

After the cycling race (with a 10km easy run the day before) my legs were not sore at all, they actually felt stronger on the Monday after. I could do a hard tempo-ish run again this morning..

So what was different, other than running is tougher on the body/legs than cycling?

1. After the running race I did not rehidrate properly, neither did I eat anything meaningful for recovery. Only took some Rehidrat @ 16:00

2. Before the cycling race I drank a bit of Rehidrat, and after the event I immediately drank some more, as well as some Peptopro (Yeah Kid, I know you gonna tell me to use something else!)

Lessons?

Running is tougher on the body than cycling

Recovery, recovery, recovery... very important

Aside: My core and general leg strength MAJOR work :(((

So what you guys planning (out of the norm) to improve fitness/strength, etc?

Recovery is extremely important. What have I always been saying Trubie, Kid, Nance?

Agteros, if Peptopro works for you then you must use it.

Slave, as long as you are training for DC as well then you can play a bit of squash.

@ Big Stirrer: Touche mate. :P (from one geriatric to another)

@ Kid: Dude, I don't care that Trubes is a married man. He is not my type at all. I don't go for married men. :o Don't go for married women either but that is not for this forum. Single women, maybe some day. Until then, Happily single dude. Very happily single.

The good news about the island SS road. Yes, the speed limit is 40 km per hour and yes, it's such a nice road surface with a nice bend that I can take upwards of around 60 without any panic, but those cameras don't take pics of bikes. (Well not bicycles anyway. And, even if they do, I have no registration for them to come find me. (Plus, it Trubies bike anyway. )So now you seen me at Eliis and at Island. Wherever next. (But thanks for not hooting dude. Apprecaite. )

BB, don't tell me that on the same road you would be going slower than me. Freak dude, for an old fart, you can sure ride a bike on a flat a lot faster than I can. Going downhill, I am sure you would be doing the same speed if not faster than me.

Neglected to mention that I'm going to be doing 15km runs @ 04:30 on Wednesdays starting tomorrow. Should give me 40km in total from Tuesday to Friday...

I still need to add a track session on Wednesdays as well. Another 8km. Gonna be hurting!

Fat people go downhill a lot faster than thin people.

Back in day before Trubie became famous & I was allowed to ride with him I had to pedal mu m0er off down Klipriver to keep up with him while he just coasted.

It was pretty much the same story on the uphills.

Maybe I need a Power Balance Band !!!!

Why thank you kind sir. So I am allowed to play squash (the one with a bat and ball) and according to you, I am allowed to date as well. I think I will recast my vote for you as team captain for the DC.

Speaking of which, I am still just commuting. In survival mode until the golden eagle comes home to sh!t. Then I can commute less and ride more on weekends, but yes, squash is on my agenda for the year and so is a bit of swimming and gym work in the not too distant future.

Just have to get the ducks in a row and join a local gym (with a heated pool)a treadmill and a spinning bike. :)

Kid what group you in for Sunday? (Was it 2 years ago already that we did that epic ride past the berg during R4S? H3ll but time goes by fast.)

Depending on how things shape up, I might just be out on the road again on Sunday.

Edit: BTW Oxman, you really are mad. A 15 k on a wed and a track session of 8km. Tha's just insane dude.
