I noticed last week that someone has done quite a bit of work on the single track in Tokai.

I've only really ridden two sections at the top recently, otherwise I'm late for work, but the one section in particular has been fixed so nicely.

StarThank you to whomever it is for your time and effort!Star  We really are quite blessed to just rock up and have it fixed, like the fairies just came and did it.Smile

(Now we just need someone to mow away the thistle and fynbos at Majik)

LOL sorry Fatty!  You had your chance, but you wanted to sleep in!  So not only can I rub it in that I was there this morning, but just to let you know the ST is really AWESOME at the moment.

Ok, as much as I do appreciate the maintenance being done, I have some issues.

Before I get my head bitten off, let it be known that I worked at the last official trail maintenance day at Tokai and even requested Dirtopia to organise another one a few weeks ago.

I don't know if this particular round of maintenance was done/organised by them though. If they do, I'll definitely be there.

My issue is simply that it seems the guys are not giving much thought to their actions.

Firstly, they ruined one of the best technical lines on the mountain by completely and totally dumbing it down so that a complete beginner could ride it quite easily.

Why they did this I simply don't understand as there was AN EXISTING EASY LINE that has now been destroyed for no apparent reason! WTF...?!

Secondly, they added several little jumps/features to the trail. This is all good when they are in the correct position. But what's the point of adding a small double jump IMMEDIATELY after a tight switchback. No human being on the planet can possibly get enough speed to clear it! They're effectively speed bumps....rather pointless.

Other than that they did great work, especially i.t.o. dealing with water drainage by adding outlets in particular trouble areas.

So, thanks to whoever did it. It is appreciated....just give it some more thought please.

Rant over!

Yesterday early evening a group of us, on our MUni's, did Mamba, Boomslang, Snake Eyes, Vasbyt, and Faerie Garden. All of those trails with the exception of Vasbyt have had some work done on them. It's great that someone is actually looking after the trails as they were in quite a state after the rainy winter we've just had.

I do agree that some of the lines have been made really easy which were a little tricky for my Unicycle, but still very do-able and are now really simple. In particular down Mamba. It does make the trail flow, but with no technical difficulty it will get rather boring after riding it a few times.

I also noticed that some trails have been closed/covered up. I suspect they were trails made by some MTB'ers tired of doing the standard trails.

Great work done by the guys fixing the trails..... thanks !!! ... just a request though, can you keep some of the technical difficulty on some things ?
