  1. Yeah, theft getting a bit out of hand. When the thief brought the bike to the main guy he tuned give the Orbea back...hence they found the bike. ???? ***if someone is offended by this please kick yourself in the face...it's a joke.
  2. Also based in Sydey now...would have loved to ride it again and at least have a local training buddy. Maybe 2018! :-)
  3. This year the Epic brought in some serious technical sections, the most obvious reason why riders experienced dehydration was because of the more technical/singletrack on the route, you just do not drink as much because you focus more staying on the bike and to drink on most sections were challenging. I was sick the first 2 days, from the Wed I felt better so did our position. Managed to sneak in a 60 GC. No mechanical's but it is because we were very "conservative" on the downhills, rather be 60 sec slower on the decent than losing minutes fixing a puncture or fall yourself out of the Epic. All in all very tough ride, proper technical, flat sections were sandy and if you had an open gravel road it was against the wind so no easy parts in this years Epic! :-) I had a 1 x 11 with 32 in front, no issues. Well done to all who finished!!
  4. Dink nie daar is so baie mense wat in daai area bly nie...
  5. Does the Vipa come with a brown paper bag to put over your head while cycling? #flippenlelikebikedaai
  6. Agree, the amount of effort these guys doing is incredible. They identified sections where the road is not up to scratch, they contacted the municipality to come and fix up some areas. Most of us is willing to pay a bit more than normal for an event but then you have to give me something in return. They doing that! :-)
  7. People complained that this races it too expensive but the amount of effort these guys are doing to make this event a good one is great! Some road closure, fixing potholes and a hilltop finish...all in one race! Well Done!
  8. Eerrrmmmm...a lot of people use these races to get a better seeding at "other" big races, so yes it is important to some. #epicfailrightthere
  9. The route was not an issue...it is MTB'ing so I did expect some open roads, single-track, nasty climbs, sandy patches, rocks, dust etc. Most of us know the area but some people expected to ride Grabouw/Elgin trails. On the race, they have been doing MTB races for a while so the success lies within the basics, that is what people expect and pay for. If you get your start shute organizing, timing and water-points right you have a great race. People might moan about the route afterwards but then it will be mostly being unfit or "did not expect to take us up that hill". When you only have water or run out of water then you not doing anyone a favor and open yourself to rant. People will start blaming start issues, water, toilets, etc.for their lack of a "good" race. Some people play the main character in their own movie so results on the web within 2 hours finishing it is a must. For other it does not matter that much but you still want to see how did you compare, after all it is a timed race. So at the end of the day if you get the basics right then the rest falls in place. Really hope they get their act together because at the rate MTB events is popping up nowadays you need to have your ducks in a row.

  11. Van die Epic stages is nie so lank nie en so 300m minder klimme in, die probleem is dat die Epic stages se oppervlakte heeltyd soos die eerste 70km is.
  12. To relate it to Epic last year, Atta would have been the easiest stage by far...! P.S - Done 2 x Epic's and 3 Atta's
  13. Thought the Epic was from 13 - 20 March 2016...but hey if the Hub say so then it must be so.
  14. That was the hardest climb of whole Epic...started out nicely...then when you thought you were at the top you had a short k@k decent then a nice walk up again!
  15. Rode a 32 front with 10-42 this year, only place I kakked off a bit was the last day on Paardeberg climb in the middle somewhere.

  17. I still say they must let the top 15 teams overall plus Top 5 in each cat go off first. No slipping and it makes the patrolling a lot easier. The rest of the teams you can give more of a "blind eye", so many ride the same pace and the congestion on the narrow roads makes it impossible to manage.
  18. I really hope that we will be blessed with no wind like this year in the prologue. Every other day weeks before the prologue the wind was puuuuuumping and the day after!
  19. If you take the winners times of the Adventure and Ride, match them with the Race times you will get a 100 index
  20. Still laughing seeing the amount of miles these guys are doing... I think the pro's can learn a thing or three by following this topic.
  21. Hi guys Hitting Jongensfontein from 14 - 22 December, anyone keen to hook up for some nice long rides.
  22. Awesome route to cycle BUT you will be risking a lot. No yellow shoulder, sharp corners, cars towing boats, drunk drivers, speeding drivers, drivers cutting corners, etc. No thanks...been like this for years so avoiding that route. RIP ????
