advise on BB please

I have a Scott Reflex FX25 full suspension and the BB is an internal type shimano ES-30 with lengths 70/126mm. Because of my frame, the front derailleur has a special bracket that clamps with the BB locknut.

 

Ok, so the BB is stuffed and sealed. Apparently, shimano doesn't have stock in SA, and won't bring in more as they are only used on the Scotts and they dont sell many of them. Apparently, the ES-51 is a better BB, but also unavailable in my lengths.

 

I have heard I should upgrade to the better external BB system. Now my question is, do you get one with those lengths, would it be easy to upgrade?

 

What are my options?

Just get an external BB and install it as the manual says. The der clamp will just take the space of one plastic spacer.

but dont they also have lengths? how would I know? Should I get the same length?

They come in one lenght. You adjust it with spacers that comes with.

But, what you guys are all forgetting to tell Rudie is that the new external BB calls for its very own cranks. He can't reuse his existing cranks.

That is shocking from Shimano to have that as a reason... The word support comes to mind here...?

 Maybe too many Scott owners used non-Shimano cables with these bikes and subsequently voided their warranties....

How do cables warrant non -support for BB's?

If you use non shimano cables your shimano BB will pack up. Everyone knows that.

Thankfully I have used shimano cables then so far... Lucky I guess...
