Is it possible to join a mtb hub to a 700c wheel set.

Seeing as the price for a good road bike is really high is was thinking of buying a wheel set with slicks on for my mtb.

I thought of using a 700c wheelset then i can use proper road tires.

An MTB hub is wider than a road hub. So you will have a problem if you want to put a MTB hub in a road frame and visa versa

I want to put a road rim onto a mtb hub in a mtb

Yes you can lace 700c rims to mtb disc hubs.

I had such a wheelset with my Hardtail a few year ago.

Theres not much difference in diameter between a 26" wheel with a 2" tyre on it compared to a 700C wheel with 23C tyre. Both will fit into most MTb's

if you want to do that then you would need a 29" bike and you would have to be running disks or else it wont work

Nope. Like GL said. A Road rim laced onto a mtb hub fits perfectely into a 26 frame or fork.

This is something I've been thinking of for 'the boss' to ride her MTB on the road.

Yes her MTB runs discs, so that should not be a problem and, from a quick measurement, my 700C 25 road bike wheels seem to be a radii just less than 350mm - which seems like it would fit in her Scott.

Next question - who, around Jo'burg, could build such a set of wheels for a reasonable price (I'd look for a set of wheels - without discs - to be around 2,500 or less).
