This is Dr Ta-ash's bike shop in Kliptown, Soweto. He was rebuilding a hub for 2 kids who sat patiently with their cash in hand. What a friendly guy. Showed me around his whole shop and even wheeled his daily transport out for me.

We got a guy (maybe had) similar to this in PE. He was working on a street corner near Neave industrial out of a cargo container, fixing bikes etc. I think the local businesses had him removed so I don't know where he is these days.

If anyone has any spare bike parts that they will not use such as pads, bearings, cables, tyres, chains......whatever. Even consumables that are used but still have life in them Dr Ta-Ash would love them. He loves having kids in his shop and the less he can charge them the better. He buys his stuff from a warehouse in Lenasia and somewhere on the West Rand and is taking strain trying to keep his prices down.

The shop is situated on the road between Walter Sisulu Square and Old Potch Rd.

DB, how did you get hold of hima and will you see him again? I've got an old headset spanner (size 32 I think) and a couple of bags of wheel bearing that he can have.

Thanks guys.

I am working on a project in Walter Sisulu Square and will still be there next week doing my bit for a community centre in White Town (We are moving a big steel Christmas tree from Newtown to Soweto for a community centre). I can collect the stuff and drop it off next week.

These bikes have all the old components that we probably will never use. Anything and everything will get used and appreciated.

Everything on his bike works! Headlight, indicators, siren. There is even a radio inside that white box that works. The car aerial on the top is not just for show.LOL

and isn't it funny that these guys sometimes are a lot more happy than the guys riding their very expensive limited edition 60k+ bikes. eish.

You are so right. His race bike. His pride and joy.

Love the places that you travel to Dirtbreath.

I constantly collect throw-aways for the local community.

Old tubes make GREAT patches.

Will start a collection bucket for you mate.
