He's in good allround shape. Wonder when these were shot?

As someone that's directed plenty of photoshoots, the following make a person's physique look most impressive:

* Black and white photography

* Well-placed lighting (usually from one side)

* Getting the subject to workout to pump up the muscles before shooting

* Lots of baby oil!

From Cycling weekly's interview with him yesterday:

I saw some recent pictures of you cycling, Your upper body looks much bigger than when you were winning the Tour.

I'm 170 pounds, which is very light for me at this time of year. And

there's not a lot of fat. I usually start the season at 180, I'm 170

now. At the Tour, I'm 164.

Still looks like a lot of muscle to lug up the hill to me?

Looks like recently - they're in his'comeback' photo series. Similar looking training photos and recent video on livestrong.com.

When he made his cancer comeback everyone was writing about how didn't regain the upper body weight he lost during his illness and could now compete in the mounatins. He was strong as a triathlete - looks like he's put his natural muscle mass on again. Unless there's some trick photography I think he's carrying more muscle than I've seen in any TdF victory...mmmm?
