Agree on the venue sentiments. But George/knysna is great mtb country.

Tell your provinces to pitch for SA's otherwise it will be at places like this.

Its still better than flying around the country after different events. Now at least you can rent a car in Cape Town for 2 weeks

Why not the have SA in the Winelands, Stellenbosch, Paarl or Mossel Bay? We need to take these big races to the people, where a family can pack a picnic basket, find a nice spot and watch the riders come past on a lap course. Who besides the silly ostriches is going to watch the riders in Oudtshoorn ?

 My thoughts on this:

 

Very few people who don't have friends or family taking part go to watch SA Champs regardless of where it is held. I think the majority of spectators at any SA Championship are generally parents, spouses, siblings or friends of riders taking part so they will watch wether it is held in Oudtshoorn or for example Stellenbosch. I think few people who aren't cyclists will bother to go watch even if it is close by.

 

At least the can run a really hard circuit in that area, so the racing should be good with sttrong riders claiming the titles.

The weekend after Argus is the SA mtb champs' date=' also in Southern Cape, so you can ride roadchamps, and 2 days later MTB. Or spectate.

Boland Tour, Giro, Argus, SA road, SA mtb, all in 2 weeks.

so is anyone from CSA going to confirm deny that the champs will be taking place 10 - 12 March in O'hoorn and other categories will be in 2 / 3rd May in the same place.

my apologies , its on the CSA website - 10 - 12 the March for Elite / juniors/ u23's and Women and then 28 - 30 May for youth and masters (must mean vets). all in Oudtshoorn.

I am not from CSA but can confirm that SA Champs for UCI Categories are 10-12 March and the rest of the Categories, 28 - 30 May in Oudtshoorn.

 

TT Route confirmed. Road route to be finalised, but it will be a circuit route.

So dose this mean that from U16 to U12's these categories will be held on the 28 - 30 of May? Or will U16 be held on the 10 - 12 March?

Only Junior (u18), u23 and elite in march. All the rest, including the littlies in May. This is (I believe) to give those selected for worlds to focus and prepare properly.

Absolutely correct, Phen. I remember when the SA's was held at Tweespruit a number of years ago - lots of moaning about the isolation but in fact it was quite successful and no less spectators than in Pretoria or PE.

apparently the road race will be on the Volmoed circuit - best to phone Ton's Bike Shop in Oudtshoorn or maybe Willie Marx Cycles in George for distances etc. the word is that it is a flat circuit but with one or two long drags
