http://www.stax.co.za/images/9.html  another option you can look at,the TEAC unit for R899 ,its a dvd player,tv(built in tuner)comes with a small antenna, radio, alarm clock only thing is it doesnt come with a car charger but you can buy that seperately if needed. This is a give away price half the original cost. This is a great little unit:

LG DVD Portable

Been using one to keep the kids entertained.  No problems in two years and many long trips.  Pretty robust as well, has been thrown around a bit with no damage.  Even plays DVD's that none of my permanent DVD players in the house will read.  Should be available at Game / HiFi / Expert stores.

The Stax's deal sounds good but they don't have a Cape Town brunch:-( I did check HiFi Corp website out but it's not very user friendly and I could nto find on DVD PLAYER ON there..

I had a look at a LG on another site as well, glad to hear that can take a punch. I think that TEAC on is the best deal since it can pic up TV as well, now I just have to see if Game stocks it!

Thx for the help guys!!

Game did stock it at some stage, not sure if they have any stock left,if they do have stock remember to ask them to match the Stax price for you,if they dont have stock give Stax a call I am sure they can arrange for the unit to be sent to you.

If you have any issues with the unit you can have sorted in the WC as the service agents are Mastercare and they are nationwide, just keep your original proof of purchase.

Just a note on the unit with the TV it does not have a built in rechargeble battery,so you will need power to use it whether it be mains or via a car charger, all the other units mentioned in this post will have built in re chargeble baateries.

Not only match but also less 10% of the difference in the two prices, that's their deal. Wink

Don't know if you'll get that Teac anymore however I see they have a Phillips now for 1299

CAREFUL - Teac does not pick up TV. You can plug it into a normal TV and use it as a DVD player.

Not true, the unit does have a built in Uhf/Vhf tuner.
